  • Currently looking at a 10kg tub of kosher salt on Amazon for £25.

At least it'll keep for a while...

  • Just eaten at Lucali's in Brooklyn. Best pizza I've ever had. Place has obviously got busier since Ugly delicious but still low key and really reasonable. We got there at 5pm (opens at 5:45) put our name down and were told they'd have a table for 7ish. Went and picked up a nice Barolo in the meantime. They also give you extra sauce and Parmesan for your crusts, which is a very legit way to do things.

If you're in NY you really have to go.

  • Nice.

Anyone got a failsafe recipe for slow-cooked lamb? Got a half leg and want to get it crunchy on the outside and fall-aparty inside. Assuming it's just garlic, rosemary, salt, a splash of red wine and a low and slow cook.

  • I have rubbed it with mustard and then applied a rough paste of salt, garlic, sugar, lemon zest and rosemary.

I use this for slow smoked lamb, and cover with foil about 2-3 hours into a ten hour cook. Leave to stand for a couple of hours wrapped in foil and there should be a super moist meat for shredding with a contrasting bark.

  • Sounds amazing. Doing that! Cheers.

  • Was thinking about doing it in a dutch oven casserole thing so could start without lid and cover for the last few hours.

  • Not exactly what was asked for, but this recipe for a leg of lamb cooked with tomato sauce on macaroni with mint is amazing. Basically a whole meal in one go, with some greens on the side.

  • That looks great!

  • I'm taking a month of shared parental leave and me, wife, and bab are going to Puglia to chill in the sun, paddle in the sea, and just generally eat our way around the area for a month.

I know I don't really need tips or advice, it'll all be fresh, local, and cheap, but if anyone knows the area and can recommend a standout restaurant or 2 for special meals during the month, and what the local dishes I should be looking for out for are?

  • That looks legit AF. Will try and go there...

  • This place is supposed to be better but my cousin said it's too cold in the restaurant so we went to the other joint instead... There's a trout farm opposite and the river runs through a mill attached to the restaurant, it's very picturesque... Gonna try and get there this week to try it out, looks very rustic, run by a couple of old ladies apparently, lots of nice cars parked outside when we went for a peak so obvs well regarded hereabouts...

  • Went to puglia last year, will pm you, and send across a document that I put together with some info on the places we wanted to go to, cribbed from websites, etc, places to see, beaches to go to, and some recommendations for restaurants. Didn't hit all of them, but managed to go to Lecce, Polignano A Mare, and Santa Maria A Bagno.

I found the food to be a bit rustic/heavy, but that could have been the restaurants we were going to, pretty filling though. Obviously drink as much coffee as you can, we had a lovely apartment in Polignano, and there was a local coffee shop a mins walk away, one of the joys of a morning was waking up, slapping down a few euro's and getting an amazing macchiato. Bread's good there as well..

Enjoyed Lecce, alot, we were staying on the edge of the old town, had some great ice cream in there, and ate at a lovely restaurant on the edge of the old town that was really good, but was taken there by a friend, so can't remember the name.

Wine in and around that area is pretty good as well..

    File incoming..

  • Latest internet rage fuel: Website tries to tell people when they're 'allowed' to dine on their own. universe collapses in on itself [rightfully]

  • Don't know why eating alone is such a thing. It's actually quite enjoyable.

  • I always eat alone, and I never get given freebies, even in my regular haunts. I'm obviously reading books that are far too engrossing, or not being gracious enough.

  • are you waiting outside when they open the door for service? any later than that and you're clearly unwelcome.

  • Went with @snowy_again to the parlour in Kensal Green for boozy Easter Sunday lunch. Was good.
Can also recommend the camberwell arms for boozy Sunday lunch, had a bone in beef pie there and that was the goodness.

  • What were the portions like? 👹

  • Impulse bought a jar of chipotle strawberry bbq sauce out of sheer curiosity and it's almost impossible to tell if it's nice or not, it's definitely too weird for most uses.

however made a ham and cheese croissant for brekkie and a small amount spread on the ham worked really well, the extra smidge of sweetness worked well with the croissant and the chipotle gave a nice bit of spice to the ham and cheese. 8/10 would mange again (and have to as I have a whole jar of the stuff).

  • the camberwell arms

That used to be the go-to boozer when I was at uni down the road in what feels like a different lifetime. Glad it's still doing decent food – I swear it was called something else previously...

  • since I'm not complaining about it, take it as read they were decent..

  • Anyone going to Lecce and driving there, if u park in a car park and pay, and then a bloke comes up to you and asks you for another couple of euro, just give it to him. It's organised crime and quite common. I told him to FO and came back to permanent marker pen all over the roof of the hire car.

  • I was I rio on the weekend and they have guys there who direct you where to park, take your cash for ticket and what not, and are legit, then a couple of streets over there's a geezer just chancing his arm.

  • Got some pork belly that’s been marinating for a couple of days.
I’m thinking of slicing some Savoy cabbage, covering it with some stock and then braising the pork belly on top of that, covered with foil, for a couple of hours.
Anyone see any issues with that plan?
