On a separate note, I'm off cycling in Cornwall for 4 days (Plymouth-Tintagel-Padstow-Fowey-Plymouth) roughly, any recommendations other than Rick Stein's?
Speaking of Rick Stein restaurant in Padstow, I made a reservation for next Sunday (although you should avoid seafood restaurants on Sunday) as that's the night we'll stop in Padstow. Has anyone been before? Is the dress code actually casual? We'll be cycling hence carrying very casual clothes only, the fanciest it will get is jeans, t-shirt and trainers..

you should avoid seafood restaurants on a monday.

TW in reply to @giofox88
Don't bother with the restaurant - Go to the bistro instead. I've never been anything other than disappointed at the restaurant.
Or ditch Padstow, and head over the estuary to Outlaw at St Enedoc (you can take the ferry if you're staying in Padstow), or a little further to Nathan Outlaw's in Port Isaac instead (and Church Hill, for a fun climb on the bike).

Even more so.
You should go to seafood restaurants on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the best. Every other day you add time in which the fish is been sitting the pantry.

I am passing through Port Isaac at lunch that day, but ditching the hill (I believe) gf has a bad knee which means everything (20kg) will be on my bike.
Which is the bistro? The fish and chips one?

Good shout seems more casual

I agree with @TW, the cafe is much better

You can also do Nathan Outlaw in Port Isaac (2 places), Rock / St Enedoc (1 place), and whatever is at his old place in Fowey.
Outlaw is basically the new Stein.

But, fancy? I can't really be bothered to carry a spare fancy change just for one dinner

@LongAndWinding grandmothers. She took it apart last year and refurbed it completely; new electrics and an overhaul of the gears. She removed 40 years of greased cake gunk from the mechanism. Unpleasant. Runs like a charm now.

I'm hoping you'll know about this, but apologies if not: is that callos spice mix special in any way? I've seen it in shops and Gadis but no idea whether it can just be made up at home.
Just had octopus for lunch, unfortunately, I listened to my dad and only boiled it for 45mins so it wasn't as tender as I'd like... Still delicious, chucked it in a griddle pan and caramelised the crap out of it... Served with home grown Padrón peppers and boiled potatoes and washed down with a crisp, chilled Albariño...
I love Galicia...
