  • Fucking hell DJ, how much meat do you eat?! All looks amazing though. I think I'm just jelly.

  • When I shit it's like pate squeezed from a tube.

Not all of that was consumed, some has been kept to be sliced and grilled or dry fried to have with salad at a later date.

  • Hey all,

I have just moved to Stoke Newington from Peckham. Any recommendations for; a good loaf of bread, a butchers, a grocers, breakfast/lunch spots and dinner spots?

  • Is this a social experiment Nath?

  • Where in Stoke Newington?

  • I am happy to report that this is absolutely amazingly delicious. would nom again

  • Stoke Newington Farmers' Market at St Paul's West Hackney (Stoke Newington Road) every Saturday. Ripple Farm Organics charge low prices and are a lovely company by all accounts.

There's a grocer that has a lot of unusual veg on Church Street--pricey but worth it.

As for bread, in Stoke Newington, you have Spence Bakery, and Aston Bakers at the Farmers' Market, but my favourite bread is from the E5 Bakehouse in Mentmore Terrace, E8 (they deliver their bread locally by cargo bike and at least two forumengers have been delivery riders for them). There's also an outfit called Today Bread who currently seem to be a side project but bake well and supply Palm 2 (corner of Lower Clapton Road and Millfields Road), where you can also get E5 Bakehouse bread.

You may have seen that I always recommend RASA N16, as it's my favourite restaurant, but I also like Tatreez (opposite Church Street at the junction with the High Street) and Yum Yum (High Street). I mentioned Bodega 50 in the other thread. The Jolly Butcher's and Jan's (Northwold Road) are good drinking spots.

  • Meat N16. Church st is pretty great for all of the above. You could venture down through Clissold park to Highbury barn to the Vintners and a few good food spots or head the other way to Kingsland road.

  • Welcome to Stoke Newington. You should come to Easts soon, it's at the Chesham Arms in Homerton, Yard Sale deliver good pizza to the pub.

Harvest on Kingsland Road near the Tesco metro sell good bread, they sell lots of wholefoods. The pain de Meteil is awesome for toast.

Istanbul is great Turkish as is Mangal or Arcola street. There's a bakery on Stoke Newington high Street on the right hand side opposite the police station that do really good gozleme.

Stokie Bears is great for burgers, chips and great onion rings. Voodoo Rays is American style pizza slices, great for late night snacks, Monday is £2.50 slice day.

Mother Earth in Newington Green and Albion Road are good whole food shops. There's a few good greengrocers dotted about too, one in Newington Green towards Essex Road past the Edinburgh Cellars pub and another up Albion Road and one more on Stoke Newington Church Street.

  • Ducks have been drying in the fridge with sticky sauce basting.

Ribs are marinating in a hoisin based sauce

Smoker set to go on in 30 minutes with the duck and an hour later ribs will join the birds.

Then just waiting for Mr and Ms @TW and their mantou buns

  • Did this Bill Grainger recipe for steak marinated in mushed up kiwi. Served with miso coleslaw cucumber and chill sauce in lettuce hand rolls. Amaze.

  • Keen to see what the duck looked like sliced up.
    Kiwi steak also looking promising.

  • Thanks for the suggestions all!

  • Gave up on this idea, due to making up my mind too late/being really busy lately..

Cheers to @mands and @lynx for tips.

  • Thank you to whoever recommended the Mediterranean shop on the corner of St James Street in Bermondsey. I was on tube home tonight so decided to get off and walk from Bermondsey as it's such a lovely day. I popped in and got the bread I usually get from Olis, my favourite cheese and my favourite honey amongst a host of other goodies.

  • Brilliant shop, good enough to ride to from Brixton for supplies...

  • Made kale chips today and loved them - i hate myself

    Meanwhile...
