  • I'm on the verge of disaster... I'm nearly out of huy fong sriracha and can't remember where i got it, I think it may have been a random little place in Chinatown.

  • Just been to the Typing Room in Bethnal Green. Was bloody good grub. Went to Chiltern Firehouse on Tues and when comparing to a similar spend for me and the doris at both places, Typing Room is much better value.

  • Slightly off topic, many apologies in advance...
I'm now in the recovery phase of Chemo/Radiotherapy, all going very well as far as I can see. I still have a bit of a sore throat which makes anything too dry or crunchy pretty impossible to eat, but it's improving daily. Worst bit is my tastebuds, which are beginning to recover but I'm in a bit of a limbo at the moment, a lot of foods don't taste of anything.
The weirdest thing is that anything with onion or garlic in it tastes absolutely foul. I'm told it will all stabilise in time, but at the moment I'm a bit stuck with what I can eat. It's amazing what has onion in it, once you start obsessively reading labels.
Anyway, according to the Cancer Research website, "A glass of sherry before mealtimes may may make food taste better". So, purely for scientific research, what should I be drinking? I know a bit about wine, but I have no knowledge of sherry or fortified wine at all. What should I be aiming at? I'm guessing dry rather than sweet, to cleanse the palate, but I really have no idea.
What should I try? Where is a good place to get some?
I guess something in a half bottle would be good. I don't want to open something which will turn to vinegar if I don't finish it in a few days. I've been off alcohol for about four months, and I'm still on morphine, so I need to take it steady.

  • The north woolwich one is my Fav.

  • Anyone got a decent Nata recipe that comes out great everytime?

  • I have a billion calorie deficit - I know I should use that to get all skinny and shit but fuck that. What should I get for dessert?

  • Don't know whether an alcoholic apĂ©ritif would be a good idea to kickstart taste buds before meals but a swill of sherry vinegar & apple juice might do the trick.

Take care, all the best with your recovery.

  • Hi B S, tough break on the cancer, glad to hear possible good news on treatment.
As regards sherry, have a read of this article > http://www.wineanorak.com/sherry.htm, and start trying a few styles, Amontillado is good place to start.

  • @>>>>>>

Roti Lady update: went to Station Road today, no sign of her.

  • Personally I never liked sherry, I find it reminds me of taste of throwing up cheap white wine at an office Christmas party. My automatic reaction is to ask for port instead.

Neither will go off particularly fast, but I think most supermarkets will stock half bottles. Probably won't be the best, but I'd start with the cheap stuff till you can tell it's shit! :)

  • Mmmmm sherry.

I would start with a bottle of amontillado, its a good middle ground between dry and sweet, has a pleasing nutty flavour.

Then maybe go for a fino if you want something dryer or a manzanilla if you fancy gong the other way.

Half bottle, notes of green apple and almond - a bit like manzanilla but no sign of a salty finish. Best of luck mate!

  • Baileys or gtfo.

    #putitonjoestab

  • @Bad_Science Good advice up there ^^^^ #iamaspanish

    @greenhell #shockedface

  • Also Sherry will go bad if left knocking about, that's why I suggested a half bottle.

  • Bit of a vegetable bonanza at #WPM in Brixton this morning, delicious pumpkins, kale and sprouting broccoli for the fridge...

Just had some of the broccoli in a salad for lunch and the pumpkins are roasting in the oven right now for tonight's soup... Nomz...
