  • Went to Meat Mission on the insistence of my sister on Sunday. O M G.

Proper stuffed I was, the burger was very good, meaty and sloppy, but den Monkey Fingers, they're absolutely badass. Hot, crispy, sharp, tart, vinegary, it's like a part in my mouth and everyone's eating monkey fingers.

The guy from Cheese & Biscuits was in there but we couldn't identify him (tweeted a pic of the monkey fingers while we were there)

  • Also, big and pleasant surprise; it was relaxed and the music was at a decent volume, unlike the living hell that is Meat Liqour

  • I've tried to find it but as it was 6 months or more ago I cannot find the right page of this thread.....

There was some talk of a really good butcher down in South East
London (maybe hither green or Thornton Heath), can anyone remember the name and location if the place? Also there was another guy who went to Smithfield for you so you could get it at almost wholesale price, he had quite a nice website if I remember.

    Cheers!

  • manor meats, just off manor lane

  • Cheers. That's the one. Just moved to West Norwood so will check it out....

  • I made yogurt in my slow cooker tonight. Very easy, stupidly so in fact.

I'll attempt to knit it tomorrow...

  • Just wanted to post to say how much I funking love avocado.

I think it may be amy favourite fruit or veg by about 5000%.... Can't get enough of the stuff. Does anyone else have this slightly weird obsession? I think it's the fat content or something, its so moreish. Like crack.

  • I'd go so far as to say I like it a lot.

  • ^^ you're missing out.

  • I funking love avocado

    this ^ 100000000000000

  • I think it's the fat content or something

You certainly need some of that. :)

  • There's a big difference in avocados though, supermarket ones in general are shockingly poor quality. Go to your local market and it could be a lot better. DoPollock or Donnie avocados is where it's at for me.

  • ^ are local markets really better for definitely-not-local foods? I mean where do avocados come from in europe? Africa? Spain?

    ^real questions

  • All of the above.
Problem is that the vast majority of avocados sold in in supermarket are Hass variety. It's the OTP version of the avocado family.

  • Am glad people are sharing the love for the green wonder fruit.

I just get mine from corner shops / markets where you can get about 3 for £1 (when they just ditch tons of fruit in bowls, with each one costing £1), they're normally all ridiculously ripe, but that's fine. Just get 'em down the hatch quick.

Never ever buy them from Supermarkets unless you want to eat them in about 3 weeks, and pay about £1.50 for the pleasure of it.

  • Reed Avocados. ZOMFG. Cannot find here. :(

  • anyone got sugestions for cooking a chunk of brisket, got a big piece cheap in tesco's and I need to make space for a billingsgate expedition, so brisket is next up.

was thinking, rubbing it down with garlic and chilli, bit of oil/honey, leave overnight, maybe longer, than stewing with tomatoes, basil, some stock and cook for a couple or four hours...

    anyone have any thoughts?

  • I'm biased but Texas Style Brisket.

I could also donate some liquid smoke if you wanted to go that route.

  • That looks amazing. Alternatively, brine it for a week, then take it out, soak in cold water for an hour or so, and simmer it up for a couple of hours. Make epic salt beef sarnies, or serve with mash, pease pudding, lentils, whatevs.

  • In exciting 'cue news, Tesco seem to have actual bone-in "Boston Butt" cut pork shoulders in 5-6lb lumps

  • ^^ Fucking awesome!

  • A snippet of the food I've been eating over the last couple of weeks in Taiwan
