  • Ginger Pig sausage rolls are amazing, on the rack they look like the usual massive puff of pastry with bit o' sausagemeat (Villandry I'm looking at you) filling then they put it in your hand and its actually a cricket ball sized lump of meat with a bit of pastry hiding its nakedness.

  • Jesus christ that chocolate cake looks incredible. Amazing.

I made kibbeh tonight, I was reading OFM yesterday and saw Claudia Roden was heavily featured. I hadn't cooked from 'Arabesque' for ages so I dug it out.

It's pretty much a lamb cake. Topped with caramelised onions and pine nuts.

I had it with a ittle bit of chilli sauce, accompanied by some purple sprouting broccoli.

I may have eaten too much

  • Gut feel as tight as a drum?

  • Decent level of pine nuts going on there.

I've missed Greasy's postings here, takes that shit to...

  • If your heart doesn't give out!

  • Belly is a little tight. Would still smash down a chocolate cake if it looked ^that good

  • Only a little tight. Must try harder...

  • What can I do tomorrow with beef stock? Thinking some hearty broth type thing with barley and leftover roast beef but... Meh. Weather's too good for that.

  • Asian beef,noodle,chilli, corriander, limey magic salad/soup - surely?

  • usually do that with chicken but yep. could be just the ticket. it's owwwwn.

    *quotes for late night reading...

Ginger Pig in She Bu has all the bones in a bucket that you can help yourself for free (Dooks get in there! - adding roasted bones to stock refreshes the flavour - stick some roasted tomatoes and treat it right and you have a consume)

  • I love Greasy's stuff. Want some.

i seem to remember we had some love deal going on a while ago... this can be arranged. xx

  • did the suggested generic "asian" noodle soup with my stock. was pretty damn good if i do say so my damn self.

was just stock, left over shredded beef, ginger, green chilli, garlic, soy, carrot, bean sprouts, glass noodles, pak choi, loads of coriander and a squeeze of lime juice.

lives or dies on the quality of the stock this sort of thing and this was a good one. had roasted the beef bones then simmered for about four hours, with usual veg and herbs. removed veg and left it overnight to cool. in the fridge all day then skimmed before heating tonight. it was crystal clear and super tasty.

that 2.2kg joint of beef was over £40 but thinking about it now, it served six for a very special sunday lunch, two for sunday evening and another two tonight. easily enough left over to make another batch of soup for two tomorrow as well. that's 12 "man meals" out of one piece of meat and a couple of quid's worth of veg. doesn't seem anywhere near as extravagant now.

  • crumpets and nutella. win.

  • I am anal enough to line my fillings up nicely in a sandwich and take good care to slice them cleanly before admiring my precision then scoffing, but that is well beyond me. Good though, if not entirely pointless.
