I like Team Pros. They're tough as old boots though. Possibly tougher.

worth a try, people have been doing that for years;

Oh god every time I see a split one I think I'm gonna try it. Then I forget about it.

skully - been thinking about trying it, know where i might find a nice bit of leather?

B17 (seem to be about £50-£60 in shops) + chop, pay loads less.

i have 2 and my favourite one is cut to look like a swift

i've got an old wrights with a hole (as it a split that I cut round to stop more splitting) in the top. promised to sell to somebody, but I could point them in your direction when they do. You could sculpt it into a key hole shape.

Like thonging to tie up? I gather there's a good leather supplier on Greatorex Street, called Alma Leather. Let me know how you get on.
I got to stamp one for you, I missed you last week at late polo, sorry.

D'you do the swifty one yourself Crane? I'd like to see it.

Dougie I want to do one myself. Bit scared though.

nah its that ratty old black one i showed you, i just tied the bottom together with a shoelace, bcause the honey one squeeks all the time.
i think i need to tighten that little nut at the front
-
• #87
try not to tighten it too much, there's only so much you can stretch the leather really.
-
• #88
I've got a B17, a B17s, a Professional S and a ladies' Finesse (the poncy Ti-railed one).
Brooks saddles are unimaginably wonderful and I'm going to be buying yet another for the penny - this time one of the huge fancy sprung ones.

Have you tried to put a bit of grease on the rails? The squeaking is probably just the seat-clamp and rails not quite seeing eye to eye, rather than anything to do with the saddle itself.

Go for the B67, they're a good size, very comfortable and defintely absorb the shock from the road without making it feel too springy like a pogo stick.

I've got a honey swift titanium, a black swift titanium (oops that one has been stolen) and a white swallow in the box. Just though I'd say that...white swallow in a box. Skully I seem to keep missing you on all the rides . (I'm Dave of Dave and Bruno)

I have a 2nd hand Swift that I just can't seem to get comfy on. I'm perservering with it, but so far not that happy. I also have a green Ti Swallow (stupidly expensive present from my wife) at home which is a thing of beauty but I refuse to use in London for fear of it being stolen. Instead it's going to go on my 'cross bike for road use (definitely not in the mud!).
If I buy another Brooks I'll just got for a standard B17.

there are many precaution to prevent it from getting stolen, the theft take anything with a Brooks logos regardless of the type really, search 'ball bearing', we have a topic about that not long ago.

@ adamM - If your swift is Brown I'd be happy to take it off your hands
btw - I have a Honey B17 Standard. Only a little scuffed...

I am working on something to solve th stolen brooks thing but I will only share it face to face with members I know or trust. One I have finished I'll let you know...

Def the nut. I had the same issues with mine.

That's the one I was thinking of - in black. The ones with springs at the front look like they might make me sea-sick...

honestly a simple ball bearing and glue work the best.

AdamM - if it's black (and fresh doesn't want it) i'd be interested in the swift, i've got a chopped black B17 if you fancy it

Edscoble you are no fool so I will try the ball bearing. Do I take it that everyone is using pitlocks, or are you ball bearing the seat tube clamp as well?
The swallow is longer than the swift, perhaps that why it have a shorter life span? (the stretching of the leather part).
