they won't if you take simple precaution that doesn't even involved removing the saddle everytime you lock up your bike.

That is a Brooks from the 80s . I ve one I brought from Whiskers in Cricklewood in 87 or 86 . Any way it was before I married the GLW. I am still using it.
And please don't say the obvious......

BTW - Whiskers was the grumpy bike shop par excellence . I think they would refuse to sell you stuff , campag of course, if they thought you did'nt deserve it.

I went to the Brooks factory last week to shoot something for Fixed. It was fucking brilliant. Proper old school engineering. I'm buying more Brooks saddles...
