  • I'd say that's it too, I've had movements of similar shape in my shots.

Would anybody be interested in some Kodak Double-X BW negative cinema film in 35 mm?

I've been offered a 400ft roll for a nice price, anybody who could help me break it down into 100ft rolls can have half of the film for free.

Also where's the cheapest place for me to buy 100ft of 400TX, I think I'm in love with this film?

  • Unfinished houses in Sagres Portugal this Feb:

    Amazing rusty old fridge:

    Velvia

  • Hmm, Velvia..

    What camera / lens?

An electro 35 with a flat battery reverts to the max shutter speed - 1/500 (...) Anyone have any ideas of what is going on here

So in the "dead battery shot" it kept open longer than 1/500, hence the light trails (look like you dismounted the camera from the tripod while shutter was still open).

  • that's the camera moving during the exposure. was it on a tripod? probaly mirror slap or wind or shaky hands.

I'm not confident it is camera movement, as I would expect all point sources of light to behave the same way: have the same patern of movement. Whilst not that sharp, the window frames in the building to the left of the shard can be resolved. I would have expected these light sources to move around in the same manner as the signature on the street.

There is no chance of mirror snap as the Electro 35 does not have a mirror.

Shakey hands? Almost certainly: there is a chimney in the shot and it belched out a massive plume of black smoke. I have never seen it do this before, it prompted me to take a shot and hope for a lightning strike.

I had also been on the falling over water.

  • I think (only) the lights in the bottom right make visible trails as they seem much brighter / closer to the camera than the others.

  • Or magnets.

  • It makes sense that closer light sources make more of an impact but how would you explain the light ripples going down the road? They are in a different direction and don't follow the same pattern as the 3 posts (not lamp posts). All this at 1/500 of a second!

  • Magers! Of course!

  • As mentioned

in the "dead battery shot" it kept open longer than 1/500, hence the light trails

there is no way this is 1/500.

I'd guess the light making the ripples are lights of a car, that has only been there in the beginning of the exposure, only being affected by the up/down movement, the beginning of the "trailing", while driving away "behind" the building.
Sorry this is shit english but I hope you get what I'm saying.

  • It makes sense that closer light sources make more of an impact

Yea, notice the closer one of the three is also stronger than the other two..

  • More interesting though - where is that giant black cat in the background coming from ?!?

  • I see your point, but the lump in the signature thing is the shard... It's the same shape repeated.

Why not 1/500th? I agree it could be less, but with a stand develop in rodinal I've brought out some extremely under exposed shots. The last roll I took I changed the ISO around willy nilly on the camera, almost all came out ok.

The cat belongs to doc Brown from back 2 the future.

  • You could be on to something with the car idea, the squiggles come from road signs I think - reflective material.

  • Why not 1/500th?

    Because of the light trails.
You'd have to move the camera very fucking quickly to get that much trails in 1/500, right?

  • Hmm, Velvia..

    What camera / lens?

    Leica M6/Voigtlander Nokton 35mm.

I seem to remember it was quite dark inside so these had to be wide open with a longish shutter (well maybe 1/50) for handheld.

  • Dear RB67,
You're overweight and getting old, but I love you so.

    Like usual. Rocking stuff.

    See what I did there.....

  • You deeeeeeed it!

I'm glad people get this reference.

  • Crib Goch? Ektar reds are amazing. I like the climbing shots.

  • The landscape is the view from Great Gable in the Lake District and the climbing shots are from Robin Proctor's Scar in Yorkshire.

  • Anyone interested in a Canon AE-1 with a 50mm (stupidly forgot to check) lens and a Kiron 70-210mm f/4 zoomlock lens.

    Say £50 for both?

  • Got a roll back from the 690 today and I think the rangefinder is a little off or I'm just really bad at using it.

The scans were a little smaller than I\d hoped so it's not too easy to see, when I get back home I'll try to rescan.

Ektar throws up some crazy colours!

  • Anyone interested in a cameraswap? I want to figure out if I should use medium format film or full frame digital for something.

I'm interested in trying a 6x7, or thereabouts, for a few weeks. (I'm really interested in an RZ67.) You could swap with my Contax T2, Canon 5d or Olumpus OM1. Could be fun. PM if interested.

  • Can anyone reccomend a good place to buy developing chemicals for black and white film? I've always used Ilford stuff before but don't mind trying something new!

  • West end camera on Tottenham court road have a large selection, as do calumet.
