  • MX? Those white bar things suck imo, I always wind on once with the back open to make sure it takes, and sometimes I put a fold in the end of the leader.

I guess I'll have to start putting a fold in to be safe.

That's what I've been doing, might have to start putting a fold in I guess. We've all done it.

Load film as per owners manual.
Do not press the rewind button, and gently rewind until the slack in the can has been taken up - very gently, to avoid pulling the film off the take-up spool or tearing sprocket holes. Once the slack is taken up, use everything as normal.
The rewind handle should now rotate each time you advance the film, giving confirmation that the film is moving not just the mechanism.

I think you posted about acquiring a Pentax MX further up thread? If you haven't got an owners handbook, this: http://www.butkus.org/chinon/pentax/pentax_mx/pentax_mx-splash.htm - might be useful - especially page 10.

Cheers, have printed off a copy to have on hand.

  • Anyone in here got a colour zine printed?

No, not yet - but been looking into this.

The copy shop route is not satisfying over here (talking about colour), as quality is 'meh', while prices are high.
I've found really good (and cheap) online printing, but have not found an option to get them to print on front & back of the paper (besides special stuff like gift cards or photo books etc.) -
which would be great, to have them just print the pages & later bind them oneself in some way that fits.

If somebody has some useful info / ideas on this, it would be appreciated.

Oh, and we could do a lfgss-photo-zine, that would be nice.. there's definately enough talent on here!

  • My latest efforts again, any suggestions on improvements?

  • ..mind to share kind of film, lens and post?

  • Apologies, I shot it on my Pentax 645, on the standard 75mm 2.8 using Kodak Portra 400, developed at rapid eye and scanned at home.

I then did a bit of post processing in lightroom, mainly to take out the blue tint the background had and sharpen it up slightly, I think I might have over done it slightly on the eyes though.

I think I need to be lighting the background more, this was taken using the light from my living room window and a reflector giving a bit of lift under her chin.

  • Eyes are very sharp, and very white - but hey.. always depends what you want & what it's for..

Portra 100 would have been nicer of course.

I like the way the background is. Neat.

Whole face looks sort-of airbrushed, hard to still tell it's actually skin. Not necessarily a bad thing but I'd do it differently.

If you're going for such a clean look might as well stamp the loose hair on top out.

I like the light overall, the colours are good, and the pose works.

    My two pennies worth..

  • I did a little spot removal, but I'm not a fan of doing too much retouching. I think its maybe just a bit over exposed for the skin tones to look natural.

I was tempted to sort out the stray hairs, but that would be a bit too clean I think

  • Could anyone recommend a place where I could get my Ricoh GR1 fixed.

Message me if possible or post it on the thread.

    Thanks

  • Nowhere :(

    What's up with it?

  • IndraRipper, I second the advice of folding over the film leader when loading your MX. When I first started using my ME Super I had exactly the same problem. Folding should fix it.

Well up for helping out with an LFGSS photo zine!

Has anyone else got pissed off with flickr's site redesign? I'm dumping my stuff here now if anyone's interested

  • ive gone off flickr now, i dont really know why, i like the look of the design i just dont think it works all that nicely.

was their actually a LFGSS photo zine mentioned? that would be awsome!

    Mos def.
Still hoping Yahoo won't fuck up tumblr any more as well.

    1+
Flickr is an abomination. What I don't get is why yahoo seemed to try to make it more like a blogging site - especially when they just bought tumblr. Surely it would be better to have 2 alternative services offering different things to cover a greater market share.

But yeah, 1+ for hoping they don't fuck tumblr.

  • Free 35mm film anyone? These have been stored in the fridge since I stopped shooting this format over a year ago.

    Nice shot.

The hair looking like a shadow on the background is the only thing which is distracting.

The skin looks like porcelain - the model will be pleased. I like the background - it looks like it was shot in someone's home, not a studio - and so adds a bit of intimatcy.

Have you had it printed? I bet it would look great printed straight off the negative.
