    ha! thanks dude
I think I really like that reala stuff, but i'm super inconsistent with the cameras/film I use so sometimes I'm not sure which shots are taken with which film in which camera, which makes it difficult to really compare, though I like the stuff I've got from it so far

  • This is going to be a Christmas pressie to myslef :]

doesn't matter what the camera is if you can't focus it properly

  • doesn't matter what the camera is if you can't focus it properly

    That's why these are perfect:

  • doesn't matter what the camera is if you can't focus it properly

I've seen the quality of your work, and concede that your macro and studio work will never be matched by me - I not only know my limitations, but I also give myself restrictions. But your advice beneath a quote I made, appears to be directed at me. I don't need it, as I had been aware of that fact for many decades.

I concede that cameras of the M6 type are limiting in many ways, but my admiration for it is based on the history, and quality. Personally, if I owned a Leica M6, it would stay on the shelf. I have not used 35mm in a very long time, and as for digital....only from my mobile phone. You like what you do, and I like what I do.

The old ways are for me, and thusly to me, the new ways are shit.

    Put. Pipe. Smoke.

  • it wasn't directed at you at all GA.
just the general gearqueerism that surrounds cameras.(it's the same for bikes) don't get me wrong i love cameras especially when they deliver the goods and do what they are supposed to do or make your life easier.
but when i think of the cost of a leica i can't help thinking of the cost of a cheaper camera and the interesting places you could travel to with the money left over.

  • It's just a camera, they're merely lightbox, a simple tools that capture what you want to capture.

I'm more interested in the photos you take, not what camera you use.

  • Ed, are you arguing for Smyth or me or both? Smyth did say the same as you did, insofar that it is more important a focus a camera, than to own an expensive one that you don't - and I have also said, that if I owned a M6, it would stay on the shelf. I would rate my Ricoh KR-5 Super II above that. I love my mechanical cameras. But I prefer cheap and reliable, to expensive. Plus, the K-mount was the winner for me in that choice.

Well the cost for me was nil as it was left to me recently by my uncle in his will. As I've never used a range-finder before now I'm still discovering how to get the most out of it.
Considering the image I posted was from one of the first rolls of film I used with it I'm quite pleased with result no matter how technically flawed it may be.

  • I like that dog diptych too, real nice yeah

I've been taking loadsa photos recently too, all my 35mm stuff is going up my dice&dice blog and then also onto the flickr collection, which y'all can check out if you want

    I'm still finding films...
has anyone got any suggestions for a film more saturated than the fuji stuff I've been using? (reala 100 and superia 400)
I mean kodak gold 200 normally comes out nice, but its still not it for me somehow... maybe I don't really know what I want. I guess something with relatively rich colours, though not super saturated or contrasty, but just not as neutral as some of the fuji

not sure, i got a load of agfa vista on the way, so will report on how that goes

Fuji Velvia is amazing for really nice super saturated colours without quite wrecking the colour balance, great for everything but people/portrait work as it makes skin tones look too un natural in my opinion, for instance a good friend used to shoot a lot of still life product stuff professionally on velvia because of the amazing colours it gave :)
Although these days he's working solely in digital.

  • I don't shoot film, but i've seen the kind of results you get from Velvia and it sounds like what you are looking for.

  • Kodak Ektachrome 100VS is warmer, but Fuji Velvia is sharper, and Provia has the best latitude and shutter speed range. Ektachrome 100VS is so warm, that it should never be used to shoot paler-skinned white people. It is fine though for black people or darker East and South Asians.

  • a few from a family gathering in Berlin last weekend:

the Segway things were everywhere.... i really wanted a go on one.
London needs to get on the case.

  • and a few 35mm ones...

  • This is going to be a Christmas pressie to myslef :]

I have two! A 1960's and an early 1940's. Love them both!

The later one is used more often and takes pics like this:

  • Surely you don't need two and are willing to do some charity work by offering the other one with a lfgss discount... ha joking. Better start saving up in time for Xmas.

  • Well, seeing as one was my Gandfathers and the other a 30th Birthday present . . . no! ;)
I have a full set of filters and a panoramic tripod mount too.

They aren't hugely expensive, but try to get one with the Zeiss lens.

  • I love that pic Dunc, the colours are incredible, did you take it in Cornwall?

  • Carl Zeiss FTW! The ones I'm looking at are about 250-400. That's months rent :E

  • Where are you looking? There used to be a shop near Aldwich that had loads of vintage stuff inc. Rollei's.

  • So far I've been scouting ebay. Like I said not buying it yet so doing my research atm, but its definitely on the agenda. If you could pm a bit more detailed location of this shop that would be great!

Your not the only one who has been to Berlin recently - was there the weekend before you :)
