  • Also interested in a Patterson tank if any one has a spare - preferably one which accommodates 2x35 / 1x120 or double that.

I used to have all of it but left it at my parents house and then disposed of it as I had all the facilities at uni.

Used to use rodinal just from a cost perspective (1:50 dilution ratio) with Ilford stop & fix.

    New page 😎

  • get an M2/M4/M5

out of interest why not an M3?

  • Assumed because he asked the 35mm lens question

M3 is a pain to shoot 35 unless you use the goggles or guesswork or get an already modified one.

  • I am with @packet

Get Zeiss Ikon ZM for same/less money; the finder is exceptional, much better than any Leica I have had/tried.

Or if you dead set on Leica get M4P (if you want the 28mm frame lines).

  • Oh and @amey I'll dig out the stuff I used to use when I first started developing at home.

    Thank you!

What have your thoughts been regarding scanning with the dslr?

I am just gonna do it with my XT-20, a Nikon macro, tripod and a backlit LED copy board. Raw to lightroom. My dev costs were getting out of hands plus I cant expense anything anymore; no more limited company ;)

  • Exactly the lens I was looking at too!

Where's the best place to look? Red dot? I'm trying to avoid eBay if I'm honest.

  • Red dot?

    and Aperture and Ffordes

  • All very slim pickings at the moment!

  • Always thought prices on sherry krauters store were very reasonable, would have to factor in shopping and import though

On a side note- has anyone had their Leica CLA’d anywhere? Thought about getting mine done at Aperture - is there anywhere people would recommend?

  • So Leica lust has really bitten me. I'm considering an M6.

Where's the best place to start looking and I'm considering matching with a voightlander 35 is this a good starter or should I just opt for the more expensive Leica equivalent?

If budget is an issue I wouldn't bother with a more expensive Leica equivalent lens. I bought a M5 and Zeiss 35 2.8 earlier this year and love them. The Zeiss is plenty sharp and contrasty.

Cosina make both Zeiss and Voigtlander M mount lenses, they know what they're doing. Probably one of the biggest factors is getting a new lens for a film camera instead of using 40+ year old lenses that are full of crap and the coating is starting to wear off.

  • Always thought prices on sherry krauters store were very reasonable, would have to factor in shopping and import though

Crumbs they're way cheaper! If we weren't in the middle of a pandemic. I could fly over and grab one of those for the price of some of the UK ones...

I've sent them an email as there are a couple of possibly ones on that site.

    Thank you

  • Interesting note from Krauter

The website is not up to date. All M cameras are long sold. Thanks for the inquiry! Best regards, Sherry

You should rethink the purchase of a M6TTL. The circuit boards are dying and there are no boards available, anywhere in the world

  • srsly dont get an M6, buy a Zeiss Ikon if you want electronics.

I can lend you my M6 so you can compare both.

  • The circuit boards are dying

    wat

  • damn. did always think that site had prices that didn't look very 2020

also getting in line if anyone has any dev stuff they'd be willing to sell (tank/spools/dark bag etc.)

haven't developed myself since school but need something to bring down the cost of film a bit so I can shoot more!

  • Only for the metering tbh. I'm trying to not to get swept up into the whole Leica lifestyle thing.

  • Pretty sure I got a couple spare tanks in the loft, will have a look when I get a chance.

Anyone had joy scanning negatives with a standard flatbed?

  • metering is overrated ;)

what film are you planning to shoot? Gold, pro image, portra 400 all can. be easily shot 3 stops over and still look. perfectly fine. Same with Hp5.

if I am in doubt I just use an app to get the darkest spot metered only once and I look at that as barer minimum and shoot everything at or above that.

  • Sorry, 35mm only.

  • all of them!

    fuck!

  • those reels 'expand' thought right to accommodate 120?

  • Normally, yeah.

  • I know what you mean and I gave them a little tug but no give. I've forgotten how if there was a particular way to do it. They're all Paterson reels.

  • Yeah the ones with the little grey insert you sort of turn them the wrong direction and they open up. Pretty sure those tanks can do 2x 35mm or 1x120
