  • the guy has always been very critical of the small contax cameras citing their inflated price vs high failure rate.

It’s just rolling a dice offering any warranty on these. Not good to sell.

  • don't buy a contax in 2019 unless:

    • it's an SLR (aria and RTS are the good ones)
    • you're making 5 figures a day and can afford to replace it
  • RTS / Aria

Also the 139q. It sits somewhere between the two in size/weight, has good reliability (but the leatherette usually needs replacement) and great RTS 2 style flash metering.

  • Who knows, but it definitely seems like they've gone from small local shop to recognised national/international seller in the last couple years, and their social media seems to show that too. They definitely have a lot of stock moving through their shop.

I also find their social media a bit annoying but I can't really complain as I'm the twunt who looks at it.

  • Remembered how much I love instant.

  • Had the same down the phone as well tbh.

I've emailed them about a camera and didn't get a reply, subsequently tried ringing and I either get engaged or no one picks up.
It is what it is I guess, reasonable prices and lots of varied stock rolling through the shop making them busy. I like Ffordes, but they don't seem to get the stock that WYC gets.

Mebbe one for @ᛠᛙᚺᚣ✻ᛕᛙᚺᛥ - are there any German or Austrian online camera shops you'd recommend ? Mostly looking at '50s Voigtlander & Zeiss Ikon stuff at the moment anyway...

  • Yeah I completely understand how it’s come to be like that, but having shopped there for a few years, I can’t help but be a bit annoyed by the change. 🤷‍♂️

  • any German or Austrian online camera shops you'd recommend ?

    Not really, sorry.
There are quite a lot of physical stores for this kind of equipment still, you will usually find their stuff online via eBay Germany as well.

  • Their face to face customer service can be a bit arsey

This is the kind of service I associate with specialist shops of most kinds, definitely had it in other camera shops...

  • Clocktower cameras is the exception in this case. 90% analogue but incredible service. One of the guys in there apologised profusely yesterday because they didn't have any non selenium light meters in stock

I get the gripe about west yorkshire but theyre probably operating well above the shops capacity, time and space wise. Must be a stressful place to work with the amount of stock coming in and out constantly

  • WYCameras were hit and miss for me... Stock desirable things at sometimes competitive prices, but I had an 'Excellent' condition Olympus Pen FT turn up from them really beaten up and grubby with a roll of film still inside, and a canon MC with leaking batteries inside; both seemed to have slipped some basic checks. On the other hand, I bought a perfect OM lens for as cheap as I'd get on ebay.

  • 139Q is bomber, had one for years and it's been almost totally solid. There's a guy somewhere in the UK still repairing them as well and most issues seem fairly easily repairable

  • Yeah, it's definitely the norm - just sad as WYC wasn't always that way.

  • TBH, I think this is how they manage to be competitive - they're offering online sales from a camera shop that gives more reassurance than just a random ebay seller, but I don't believe their checks are as stringent as some other shops'.

The two you mentioned are pretty blatant tho.

Just tried Clocktower Cameras website and got a 509 Bandwith exceeded. Sounds like WYC aren't the only ones who are busy...

  • The clocktower site is a bit shit, and they dont list everything on there. Don't think its updated much tbh. If you call them theyd probably be happy to help

  • So much hate for the Contax’s in here.

I love my T2 and when my one breaks I’ll defo buy another.

  • Oh, understand it is definitely not hate. I've been after a T1, 2 or 3 for a long time, but they're becoming harder to find and their price is increasing accordingly!

  • One of the few chances I get to do an Alex Webb style photo and I cocked it up by not keeping the camera steady.
Tried using the camera shake reduction filter in Photoshop but it's a bit shit

  • So close to awesome.

Need the camera tilted forward a smidge. And perhaps shot on 6x7 :)

  • My wallet says no to 6x7 ;) Funnily enough have just bought a Mamiya 645 from WYC (lol). Will see how long it takes to turn up.

On another forum someone has had a bad scan (scratches, fluff, haloing) from Mr Cad. Where else in London's famous London would people recommend ? Aperture ?

  • Im not gonna lie the hipster tax has really sent the price through the roof which is sad.

  • 30 second pinhole selfie. RSS 6X9 / Kodak Tmax 100.

  • Shooting gigs is fun. Kodak ColorPlus 200, Ricoh AF5.

And a couple from the EOS 300 and 400TX.

That last one doesn't have a great contrast, but I kind of like it because of that.

Also, what are you guys' thoughts on phone light metering apps? Which is the best one for Android? From what I gather, you still need decent optics in your phone, which I may not have (Huawei P Smart), but I'd still like to give it a shot.
