  • Ya sure PM me

  • Yea I guess this belongs in the "Frankenbikes" thread but whatever.. Kodak Gold 200 in Diafine again.

But seriously LOOK AT THAT BIKE !

  • Cheers, much appreciated. Proper getting into medium format now.

Can anyone recommend a fast colour 120 film ? 800ISO+, saturated and contrasted. Been experimenting with taking candids with the Mamiya, and want a narrow aperture (for good depth of field) and 1/100sec or faster shutter speed. Plenty of choice in B&W for fast films, but not so much for colour ? Portra 800 and Cinestill 800t are kinda pricey for 12 shots.

Provia pushed two stops looks like it'll work for good light, or just plan Portra 400 of Fuji 400h if i want more muted colours. Kinda stuck for faster colour 120 film

  • You could push Portra ... or use a tripod?

Like miro_o said - push Portra (400). Or maybe just shoot it at 1600 and process regularly.
Or try Fuji Natura 1600 while it's still available.
    Or use a flash
    : ]

Seriously though look at examples online of Portra being shot at -2 and see whether you like it..

  • Thanks both.

Tripod is out as it's for candids, likewise flash (I haven't got the balls to do a Bruce Gilden). Natura 1600 is 35mm only ? (I have a few rolls for 35mm I'm trying out). Porta 400 or Fuji 400h under exposed one stop seem like the easiest solution I guess, although I was hoping for something with more saturation - a faster Ektar or Velvia for example.

Sucks that a lot of the faster colour films have disappeared

Edit - It looks as though Lomography do a 120 800ISO film (rebadged Kodak Gold/Procolor/Ultramax ?). I'll try that out when they have some back in stock

  • I bet that lomography film is shit.

    There's CineStill 800T as well!

  • The 35mm version of it is apparently Kodak Ultramax 800, so I presume the 120 version is similar. I have a soft spot for the Gold/Procolor/Ultramax (whatever it's called this week) range, especially with reds.

Cinestill is out as like Portra 800 it's near enough double the price of other 120 films

  • What did you mean by ‘good light’? If you want something for dull-but-even light Provia could work. I’ve only ever shot it rebranded and 35mm. Like other slide film I usually shoot it 2 or 3 stops faster than I would negative colour film in the same situation. I don’t mind areas of black/zero detail. It’s not ideal at all in high-contrast situations but you can kinda hustle it at night ... if you’re ok with the 90s NME photo shoot look lolz.

  • Anyone else waiting on FilmDev?
I know I’m just being an impatient swine, but still.

  • I need to send a couple of films, Christmas post .. not a good idea?

  • No idea. They might just be busy, I might just be paranoid. I’m chalking it up to my own impatience more than anything else.

  • I've got about 5 rolls of holiday snaps, wanna combine postage?

Got a call from Filmdev yesterday, a roll I sent first class 10 days ago had turned up. Was very happy about this as I was sure I had one of my best shots ever on the film, and I'd lost them in the post.
Get the scans back today and typically the photos aren't very good. The shot I thought was the best ever is blurred and out of focus. Maybe should have stayed lost in the post...

@amey - if you're posting I'd probably use a service that you can track and get a signature on delivery. I'm using a local lab at the moment rather than risk posting again

Yup, flat dull light, late afternoons in winter. I've heard you can push Provia up to 400ISO, does it stretch out to 800ISO ok ?

  • I’ve seen provia 400 push processed two stops and it looked great. I think it was the go-to for nighttime urban landscapes. I assumed we were talking Provia 400?

Not sure what happens with 100. What do Fujifilm say?

  • Spoke to filmdev, not arrived yet, probably just slowly floating through the system.

The same, I hope, is happening to the shoes I’m returning to a company in Europe...

  • Provia 400 is no more sadly, fastest Fuji slide film now is 100ISO in either Velvia or Provia flavours (or the Agfa re-badge of Provia).

Can push Provia 100 two stops to 400 apparently

  • Yeah I thought so. Probably a lot still in freezers though (no idea how much 120 is about).

Btw I think the Agfaphoto Precisa is Sensia (softer colours, less contrast than Provia).

  • Just save up enough and send special delivery doesn't cost that much and always gets there.

  • This is oddly satisfying
