  • Hasselblad seemed to make pretty much every and any conceivable accessory for the 500 series (or so it seems at times) so I would be surprised if they didnt make one. You will pay a premium for it to have VH written on it lol.
Its worth noting that a lot of cable releases wont trigger Hasselbad bodies as they dont extend far enough

These cable releases are supposed to be very good (I believe they make Linhof's branded ones)

With regards to the c41 conversion above - most scanning software fails to invert and apply the correct filter to remove the orange (remjet) mask when scanning colour negatives. This is sometimes a lot more noticeable than others - colorneg/colorperfect are good plugins that (claim to) do this process corectly.

I do sometimes wish i'd went for mamiya when looking at the costs, but i guess that's a discussion for another day. It's good to know about some cables not being long enough, all useful information which is appreciated. To be honest i'm not that bothered about the groupset being exclusively VH, Linhof's equally as good for me.

Haha I think Viktor Hasselblad is probably turning in his grave at the mention of his V System being reffered to as a "groupset" :)

  • Thought you guys might be interested in a few cameras I've got for sale, medium format and 35mm:

  • im after a relatively cheap film slr second hand, what brand would anybody suggest? i have a couple of pretty bog standard nikon lenses already but there nothing special

  • If you have some lenses already, go Nikon body, plenty of cheap ones out there - depends if you want go autofocus or manual - your lenses may dictate that... Stephen Gandy goes in deep here, as always: http://www.cameraquest.com/nikonslr.htm

...or ditch that advice, do the decent thing and get a rangefinder ;)

  • that was the option i was considering (cheap body) i can get a perfectly acceptable one for around 15 quid, i dont use autofocus but its easier for me to get lenses compatible with an Af body

  • ectoplasm

  • first attempts with mamiya 645 + lightmeter + portra 160 nc

The more I look at this, the more it grows on me. Though for texture detail, I always go for black and white.
Hope you don't mind me illustrating the look I would lean towards.

  • i'm going to disagree with you there A-

the color image is much more vibrant and the pinkish hue of the background plays perfectly with the green of the ferns.

in b+w this subtlety is lost and it is rather plainer and a less interesting image is the result, with an inherent loss of texture and depth

  • You are right H, but it was only a representation. Had I actually shot it with film, instead of mucked about with a digital colour file,
it hopefully might have better portrayed my meaning.

I have clearly failed in this regard.

  • ahh I see.
    understood.
neways, I need to get out and finish some rolls I'm halfway through.

Its sort of a learning curve with my camera.
I genuinely haven't a clue- so learning from internets.
-as you can see from this post- I am definitely no photographer, just an opinionated c***.

  • I am the antithesis of the modern photographer. PotatoChop skillz are my nemesis.
I do however know camera exposure pretty well. Thats about it. ;)

  • Flatbed film scanner with carriers (plus apple powermac G4)

one hour to go. london collection.

  • @gogosama, there is something to be said about using completely manual kit to either start learning (eg Pentax MX used to be popular), or to clear the cobwebs and get back to basics. I love the involvement, and that it forces you to take you time. I'd get a cheap manual body, bung in some XP2 and go for it...

  • XP2?
Nah, I'd reccomend HP5 for grain and contrast, delta 400 if you want something with more mid tones and a finer grain.

Although the processing costs of b+w are ridiculous around where I live so I guess XP2 would be a good choice if you wanted to get the prints cheaply...

  • ...I guess XP2 would be a good choice if you wanted to get the prints cheaply...

Yep, exactly - convenience. It gets dissed but I've been using it for years. I hate having rolls of non-C41 film that I can't be arsed sending off.

  • phlogiston

nah, overrated. Oxidation, that's where it's at...

  • Shot my first bit of film today...ever! I have to say it was quite refreshing not having to scrutinize every picture on a 2.5" lcd afterward, something I'm normally a sucker for.

Mainly just test shots to see if the camera is still working but still, a step in the right direction I feel!

  • Must remember to never post images in this thread.
I'd be ragin if someone took my images n fucked about with them in photoshop.

  • Ooooooooooooooooooh. ;)

Hope that sort of thing doesn't happen too often eh?

  • Just sayin.
That's someones art you're fucking with.

  • If he complains, I would remove them. I promise you this though, that I would never fuck about with YOUR art.
    Who the fuck would dare?

Anyway, I shall correct you, because you do need it.

HIS ART, would be the full and original file size at least. Manipulation of a tiny reduced file size representation of his film image,
is NOT fucking about with the original; especially as the fucker was polite in explaining his actions.

  • Oh wow you found some of my photography. I'm shitting myself.
I'm just saying it seems a bit up yourself to presume you can take someone's image and edit it to show them what you think makes it better.
I'm a student and my lecturers don't do that, what puts you in a position of such higher knowledge to show people how their pictures should look?
Yeah yeah, if he didn't want feedback he wouldn't have posted etc etc and the artist/photographer in question hasn't complained (yet) but still...offering critique and suggestions is one thing, photoshopping someones image without being asked to is taking it a bit far imo.
