  • My favourite (personal) shot of 2015....

  • Just looked through the North East Victorian Bakery Tour and the latest one as well - some really nice shots in there!
Gotta get a wide camera sooner or later..

  • ^ nice colours tk

  • Yep great colours.....bet these road markings series would look good real big !

  • Cheers guys,
yeah indeed it would be great to print these really big.. am sort-of limited by 35mm negs though.

Really thinking about going medium format again next year (at least 6x4,5) - could get a Mamiya for cheap - but film, dev, and scanning (or buying a MF scanner) will be really tough on the wallet..

  • ..... Mamiya ..... cheap

    Lolz :-)

    A Fuji ga645i?

Pay someone to make contacts... then pay them to scan the chosen frames. Not expensive but a 'slow' process for 201516.

Not sure about big. Have you tried then on instant film as sets?

  • Or a dedicated instagram?

  • yeah, somewhere

  • Mamiya ..... cheap

    Lolz :-)

What I meant was I could use a Mamiya 645 of a friend, or buy one on eBay for very little money.

..where I live (Berlin) proper scans cost a fortune. We don't have deals for dev & scan like you do in the UK.

    Not sure I follow you.

    instagram?

    Definately unsure I'm following you..

  • Teaching the young lass (23 months old) to take pictures, letting her use our Fuji Instax mini. She freaking loves it!

  • I'm obviously helping her hold the camera but she's looking through the viewfinder and pressing the shutter. Hoping to maintain the fun until I can explain a 35mm and get her a wee point and shoot.

  • Workin?
    Can I borrow?

Quite a good idea. I thought you'd be going for a (nice, but pricey) rangefinder (mamiya 7).

I see. This is sad - there used to be ton. Scanning sucks.

If you want the prints large I guess you want to bring out detail and the textures of the road and paint? If that's what your after an fx dslr would give you the greatest clarity.

I think your markings shots are perhaps most interesting as a set. A number of prints displayed together.

They are very simple, graphic photos so I'd instinctively go to small formats to try; A zine, Instax actually has the right field of view so might be fun to try (and it's medium format) ;-)

I was suggesting an instagram feed because many are dedicated to a specific type of shots, such as collections road markings! Instagram is great for these types of things - many users have a feed for colour 35mm and another for bw, or mood shots, portraits etc.

I hope I have explained myself.

  • thought you'd be going for a (nice, but pricey) rangefinder.

Have never used one so far but if I can get access to, say, a Mamiya 7 I would love to have a go.
That being said - 99% of what I shot in the past was done with SLRs, so that's kinda my thing.
With medium format the mirrored image is an issue sometimes of course, but on the other hand these huge matte screens are such a joy they make me drool.

If you want the prints large I guess you want to bring out detail and the textures of the road and paint. If that's what your after a decent digital full-frame dslr would be good.

    Yeah I got one (Nikon D3) - alas it's only 12MP, so it's 30x40cm max, rather 20x30 @ 300dpi..
I consider selling it and buying a D750 instead but it really is a shit decision.

I think the shots are interesting as a set. A number of prints displayed together, perhaps even as a zine.

Yea cheers, glad you like them. It's probably the series I enjoyed shooting most in 2015.
Definately need to find a nice way to display them.

They are very simple graphic photos. I'd instinctively go to small formats like polaroid or a dedicated instagram feed.

..weren't you just saying that they would look good big ?
    : ]

I don't do instagram really, but there's a flickr album, or the option to view the tumblr by the appropriate tag.
It's not ideal I know, definately have to work on displaying my work..

  • ..weren't you just saying that they would look good big ?

    Not me, no.

  • Sorry, mixed that up!

  • Easily done.

  • Anyone got a ricoh Gr1/s/v service manual in PDF format?

Got a few of these kicking about that have all broken in some way or another but I'm sure with some info I could make 1 or 2 of them work.

I've missed these little cameras so close, nothing comes close to it's size, lens or speed unfortunately. The Nikon 35Ti is amazing but unfortunately not fast or small enough to carry in the same way.

  • It's also just as fragile IME. There are few mjuiis that have just gone up on uk eBay.

Figure out how to mend GR1s (and Contax G2s) and the world is yours!

I fixed a Nikon AF600 to play with. No results back yet but it definitely isn't as quick as the ricoh or oly.

  • Think I have a manual somewhere. Not a service manual so prob no use? Let me know how you go, I've got a couple too, both take photos but neither are perfect.

  • Ah I got manuals already, looking for specific service one.

What's up with your ones? Dodgy LCD and Finder?

  • For those in London I caught the Alec Soth exhibition at the science museum this morning,
had his books for a while but big quality prints are a different fish.....£8 well spent.....till
    end feb I think.
