  • AuDoc, thanks for the clarification. hehe, not even begun and already lookin@possibilities but l might chicken out on the carbon. Will order and get busy next weekend :)

Still intrigued on the results of your stem Dmczone! ;)

  • If I were to nitromors and polish up some rims how long would they stay looking nice for? Would I be able to get away with just giving them a quick buff up every so often or would they end up looking shit really quickly?

  • gabes is your man to ask - he polished up his cannondale

  • They'll oxidise but if you clearcoat them after polishing they'll stay nicer for longer.

  • They should last a fair while, my seat post, stem and bar 'sleeve' are all polished and they hardly ever need doing again, and once its done it really is only a quick buff to get it gleaming again. Think Gabes has said before it lasts a fair while.

Use Autosol (or similar) for the final poilsh, it will protect the surface a bit to, so will last that bit longer.

If its a pair of rims won't they be anodised not painted? In which case does Nitromors work, or do you have to use oven cleaner or something, theres a good post with pictures somewhere on how to do it. It recomends beer + sunny day + beer.

  • search 'shiny shiny stuff' in titles. My beer addled tutorial is in there.

  • I remember someone posted a guide to polishing up old stems/ bars that have seen better days. Spent about 10 mins looking but cant find it, any ideas anyone?

  • JOL posted it, its on a different forum i think though

  • Search for SHINY

  • or if you want a more detailed answer on polishing, and have plenty of time, work through this

  • Brilliant, thanks a lot.

  • is this a double entandrĂ© thread?

  • I certainly enjoy getting my old parts polished from time to time... Keeps them in tip-top condition...

  • Mmmm, this is a good thread, i've bookmarked that polishing post, man that cinelli stem looks good, hopefully i can acheive results similar :)

  • It works a treat, rocker... I've buffed a few parts in my time following that guide... Use caustic soda, some oven cleaners won't work...

  • I will do, i think il poop into town today buy some metal polish, caustic soda, new buffing wheels for the dremel and some 1200 grit wet and dry (or nick it from school, depends on when i go into town ;) )

  • @Teenslain, do you know where I can you buy caustic soda, generic hardware store?
Or does anyone know where Easy-Off oven cleaner is available in the UK? Can't seem to find any.

Need to polish up and old stem for a build for my girlfriend... She is being picky about stuff being shiny. Slave driver.

  • Just go to a hardware store... They'll sort you out...

  • Thought as much, ill try them. Cheeeeers

  • It was de annodizing more than just polishing, but it's good fun. I wish I had kept that stem now :(

  • lpg did some pretty shiny stuff
maybe search lpg as user and polish as key word ?

  • fuck oven cleaner. that only has a portion of the chemical needed in it, along with a load of other superfluous shite. what you need is kleen-off caustic soda is crystal form. add water and go. make sure to wear goggles (seriously) and try not to breathe in all the rancid fumes that'll be released when you dunk your parts in it (ooh-err). oh and don't be alarmed when it turns your stem black, this comes off easily.

  • is this a double entandrĂ© thread?

Blonde goes into a bar and asks for a double entendre, the barman gave her one

  • two dyslexics go into a bra..
