  • They do, just give them the shop's email address.

  • Not that I'm aware of. I tend to manually unselect 'contact by..' options because I know at some point, they'll get added to a pretty extensive database which feeds unwanted shite.
Sad thing is, staff do get picked on if their 'email capture' quota is out of whack.

  • Is this guy trying to lock his bike to a bollard?

  • He will have trouble as the shackle on the lock is closed too.

  • I've tweeted them to see if their insurers still pay out if the stolen bike was locked to a bollard

  • My reasoning totally didn't compute when I said that'd I'd never worked on a Rohloff, which is a complex piece of kit I don't want to fuck up. so I'd rather recommend them they go elsewhere.

Give them a price for removal and posting of wheel to the specialist?

  • Big bollard or small bike?

    #streetlamp

  • I hand out lots of fake email addresses that do route to me, so that I know when people are ignoring explicit opt-out preferences and either spamming regardless (as is the case with Evans) or selling the contact database.

  • Are there bollard that high in London?

  • It's a lamppost isn't it?

  • Generally doesn't go down well. We have "24hr turn around" plastered everywhere and people do come in expecting it for...well...pretty much everything. Being realistic and frank with customers tends to help, but I can't speak for other stores.

  • We have "24hr turn around" plastered everywhere

I'll pop in next time my Lefty needs some work then.

    Let's see how that goes!

There are some bike parts that just can't be serviced by regular bike mechanics regardless of cytech level and whatnot - Hub gears, Sus forks, (some) disc brakes being prime examples.

Agree that some customers can't understand that, but hey, 'we'll post it to a specialist and deal with the hassle' is better than 'take it someplace else, sorry'?

  • I'll wait till you come back, spear you with it, then run away into the sunset cackling with insanity.
It's not the customers that concern me to be honest, it's the companies ethos and lack of knowledge in regards to what can, or can't be repaired in house.
You're bang on though. Better a specialist then refusal. Though I have no qualms recommending an LBS for work that I can't actually do. Specialist road = Condor, Dirt = Soho bikes, Wheels = SBC.

  • Yep, multiple disposable email addresses so you can find out who is spamming you and add them to your shit list.

  • From Sky News today:

Evans Cycles is reported to be planning talks with its lenders about an overhaul of its financing arrangements following a slowdown in bicycle sales. Evans was bought by private equity firm ECI Partners a year ago, but poor weather and stiff competition has impacted the UK bicycle market, with rival Halfords recently reporting like-for-like bike sales declining by 4pc in the 13 weeks to July 1. Sources close to Evans dismissed suggestions it was "in trouble," saying it was trading ahead of the market, and would outperform rivals in the medium term, boosted by its high street presence and investment in online operations.

  • Sound more like the private equity company realising that bike shop doesn't give a predictable profit to them.

  • (Old post I'm replying to I know but...)

    Yes, it's a lamppost.

It's Borough Market. 5 mins with google streetview shows it is this lamppost:-

Spin it round to see items from the original shot in the background.

  • A slowdown in bicycle sales?

I think they're doing something wrong.

  • Evans have recently started doing Cycle to Work vouchers which can be redeemed against parts.

Tbh I'm not surprised there is a slowdown in sales. We have gone through a massive boom and it's only natural things start to plateau off a bit.

  • Also, brexit

  • Brexit once the government went and shit itself, will affect Evans as well due to bicycles being brought in from Europe and the weaker pounds (Cannondale for instance may likely to become more expensive).

  • Mismanagement.

  • Who knows.

Noticed big sales in cycle republic

Evans still running their 15% off cannondale ?
