^^As chance would have it, I called Westbourne Grove Evans today to enquire about a BB fitting, as they're my local branch; after reading that, no thanks. I've always had decent service there though, and was even taken down to the mechanics lair once when they cut me a chain to size. Such privilege.
There are a few decent people working there, I think. I've always preferred the Holborn branch though - ultra helpful, willing to waive charges if need be, have me try things out, and happy to talk. But Fenchurch Street is cack.
I think I'll be definitely avoiding it in the future, plus there are at least 3 or 4 other decent, helpful and friendly LBSs around there.

There are decent, knowledgeable staff in the Canary Wharf and Leadenhall-ish branches, and also some some who don't have a clue. Once you get to know which are which it's fine, especially as they never refuse to price-match.

Actually I had forgotten the conversation I had with some idiot in Wandsworth Evans. In a nutshell I was informed that Looks were by far the worse pedal system ever manufactured making cycling almost totally inefficient, and that I really needed to buy the Ti Speedplays, and new shoes to go with them.
Arse.

Guess what? They decide to fire me!
They didn't want to employee me despite the manager of a certain evans shop recommend me to fill in the form from the website.
got e-mail back 'sorry, found someone better for it'
not exactly like that but still, same go to cycle surgery.
somehow it's very hard trying to get a job where max crowe can easily get.

Worth a go? I have no real agenda, a colleague sent it to me (vaguely embarrassed about Evans, sorry).

So the South African idiot working at Evans' Cycles Chalk Farm today told me that collisions between cyclists and cars are ALWAYS the fault of the cyclist.
I asked why he believed that and he said it is the cyclist's duty to be seen and if they were seen they wouldn't be hit. I said what about lorries that can't see us due to shitty design. He restated his argument again more emphatically. Total knob end. I thought he was winding me up but he was serious.

Lol that guy is such a moron. I've heard him talk the most shit. Where's his self-consciousness?

People often believe in the 'right' of the 'stronger'. It's a much wider misconception than just cycling, although it has a habit of coming out in relation to it.

Went to Evans (Westbourne Grove - my local) today to get a replacement seatpost clamp and they not very good. The people on the floor seemed to be nice enough but lacking in knowledge. After reading previous posts I definitely won't be using their services unless it's an emergency. I knew I should of stuck with Bicycle Workshop or Cycle Surgery in Shepherd's Bush where I ended up eventually (within 5 mins I was back on my bike for £4.99)

Dredge: does anyone know how long it usually takes for them to decide whether or not to price match?
-
• #543
I did a pricematch on some carbon Keos a while ago, sent the request one afternoon and got the reply the morning after

I popped in to buy a Hope light. I had printed out several online buys at better price.
They looked at the print out and immediately matched the cheapest price.
No questions :)
Fair play. -

thanks very much. i'll do the printout thing tomorrow

They even price match on sale stuff too, I bought a track pump that was already discounted £10, but Parker sells it £8 less than that so they knocked that off in store too.
They looked pretty pissed off about it, mind...

• #547
I just told them the website it was on and they searched it on the till
turns out a pricematched mini fagh was probably a couple of quid cheaper than the staff could buy from the shop, smiles all round
-
• #548
Thinking of the mini fagh too, my current fagh chain is way too heavy and cold to carry...

Anyone here work at the Cut branch that could do me a small favour? PM if you want to remain anon.
Evans refuse to play any U2 music when they 'arrest' you.
