Such sad news. Always had brilliant help from everyone at Evans... what an awful company
-
• #1828
To end up like this...
-
• #1829
It's massively shit. :(

On the back of a massive bike boom with a record breaking year for bike stores? Only Mike Ashley sucking things dry.
-
• #1831
Dick Ashley in gutting a company shocker.
I had a great time working at Evans. Pretty sad to hear and wish the best for all staff. -
• #1832
Damn, that really sucks. I hope the staff able to find new and improved jobs soon.
-
• #1833
Balfes seem to be doing well and expanding rapidly. Hoping they can save a few jobs here
-
• #1834
They took over the older Evans store/location, even staff and the Evans HQ in Gatwick.
-
• #1836
The HQ had gone? Not surprised just hadn't heard about it yet.
-
• #1837
Wonder if Evans will end up as a section in Sports Direct "super" stores, a bike, bottles, couple of jerseys and how to order on line.
-
• #1838
Evans was fucked already though? They burnt through millions “competing on the high street” while price matching anybody and anything online - completely unsustainable. It’s sad what it’s become but mikes bikes is the symptom not the cause. The bike trade has been a battleground and a case of survival of the fittest and now that cycle surgery and cycle republic have shut, evans and Halfords on their knees, we just need sigma et al to fuck off and we can get back to a half decent industry.
Every time you (not just you pedalsloth) buy the cheapest thing online (merlin, PX, wiggle, sigma...) you kill an LBS, just remember that.

• #1839
Yes, and in house of Fraser. LoL
-
• #1840
I’ve never had Sigma down on my list of race-to-the-bottom scumbags, and battling that is a big part of my working day - admittedly I don’t have much to do with them any more so maybe I’m missing something
-
• #1841
Maybe I’m skewed as I grew up around Kingston so to me Sigma still basically is a LBS
-
• #1842
They price shag everything.
-
• #1843
Ah, I bought stuff there because I worked there haha. :)) I think if I had been a normal customer I would def chose an LBS instead of Evans.
-
• #1844
IME they’ve never taken much shepherding in that regard, I guess I’ve been lucky
-
• #1845
First 2 things I looked at.
This is on top of “£25 off for new customers” and “up to 14% off for loyaltyzzzz...” this is in a time of mass shortage.
They’re the worst.
Seriously.

Mmm can’t argue with that. I guess I’d just rather have 5 pricing conversations with them than 1 with Wiggle. Recency bias definitely at play there though, I’m sure
-

recency bias
They were doing 30%+ off exposure last time I looked about 18 months ago but yeah not much point discussing further.
They were discounting Wahoo as well, not sure if market forces at play or if they had their wrist slapped.

They’re the worst.
They really aren't. They are two mates who started selling bike bits out of a bedroom who've spent 25 years building up a business.
-
• #1849
And wiggle started off as an LBS in 1995?
When it comes to undermining pricing and making life hard for the LBS -
Sigma are right up there. Not sure how you can argue otherwise? -
• #1850
I dont work for Exposure so I haven’t been keeping an eye on that. They’ve not been a business I’ve directly worked with for about 9 months, whereas I’m in my first week of walking without the ball and chain of WiggleCRC, which is what I meant by recency bias.
I've heard from ex colleagus that workshop manager positions are gone/going.
Not sure how they expect the managers to take longer hours.
