In DT lessons at secondary school if you couldn't find your pencil case you'd often be able to find it at the bottom of the 50L tub of (green) swarfega.

slight change of topic - our work cycle scheme is through evans, and i was told by a colleague recently that he wasn't allowed to top up his voucher when he went to pick up a new bike.
evans have always allowed me to do this in the past. (£1000 voucher, then add £500 cash etc)
can any current evans employees shed any light?cheers!

I'm ex employee, but the only people who weren't allowed to top up were LFB for us, everyone else could spend as much as they wanted plus the £1000 voucher

The Cycle to Work scheme has been changed (it now allows employers to offer vouchers >£1000), but it has removed the loophole that allowed individuals to "top-up" the voucher in cash.
I don't think there's anything to stop the bike shop from splitting down the bike into a chunk that is priced at the voucher value, and dealing with the remainder as an separate transaction. But that would require goodwill and the ability to make decisions by the staff member you were talking to (seems unlikely under the current Evans regime)

I had looked at buying a frame set through my cycle to work scheme previously and at the time they said it had to be a full bike so not sure if they would be able to?
-
• #1719
as far as i'm aware, you can spend the voucher on components, it doesn't have to be a full bike (unless that's changed as well??)
for clarity, i'm talking about evans own 'ride-to-work' scheme, which may differ slightly to other cycle schemes.

All of the individual schemes are simply the operation of the overarching government initiative (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cycle-to-work-scheme-implementation-guidance)

Cyclescheme; There is a scheme for bikes and then one for accessories.
If you do a top up technically you are on dodgey ground as the £1000 is owned by your employer. So you buy a bike for £1500 and something goes south you loose £500...

The employer gets the employee to buy them out. Presuming they can.

You'll get taxed as a defined benefit which happens if you resign within 12 months of the scheme.

I've always wondered this, had a guy I worked with that got a £4k mtb on it.

Rules changed late last year, 1k limit lifted and you'll submit a quote for what you want and get a voucher for it which you'll redeem the bike through the scheme.
Have they got Kanye on board yet?
