• It's Lee.

I know his name but I didn't want to put it in full.. that's why people have aliases.

  • i can get the felt dispatch at a discount

  • Seeing as fixies are the new in thing and there'll be tons of suited and booted city boy types trying to get in on the action. I think we should have a total noob doing a review as well!

what its like to ride each bike as a fixed for the first time, etc etc. talking about the simplest of details. stiffness, saddle comfort, etc etc.

    obviouly im volunteering myself

  • yeah, but everyone that gets their first fixed wheel as an off the peg says it it's the best bike they have ever ridden.

  • They should try the village bike.

  • his bike?

  • i wondered what Glenn was up to these days

  • Damn! After hours of scouring the net I really thought I'd found the thread to answer all my questions. Think I'll drop by again in six months or so. ;)

  • what, and by that time we'll all have grown up and started posting serious comments?

    Crank-girl: post your questions!

  • in response to BRM -- that isnt entirely true. Ive tried two off the peg bikes, the surly steamroller and the charge plug. I could easily feel the difference between the two. Correct me if im wrong but the surly feels like a stiffer bike, that might partly be due to the difference in wheels. also the saddle on the charge was much nicer than the velo on the surly. thats the first thing id replace. i spent half an hour on it and my sit bones were so the next day.

  • Fair enough, mate.
It wasn't implying that new riders can't tell the difference between OTP bikes, it was implying that getting your first fixed wheel bike, or your first new bike after a layoff can be exciting and can blur judgment a little.
I will change my statement to: "**almost **everyone that buys their first fixed wheel as an off the peg says it it's the best bike they have ever ridden".

  • Two bikes that may have been missed for review are the:

    Gary Fisher Triton £500
    an
    Pearson Hanzo £500

I've been told the Triton is like a surly frame on a budget but i think its a bit of a looker yet the pearson seems to have a few good qualities of its own. Anyone think I'm crazy to want either of these?

The Triton exsists because Trek ditched Lemond, so created the Triton to fill the gap left by the Filmore - basically same bike, same frame - it is pretty much identical in spec to a Genesis Flyer if you want a comparable, except for the lack of Carbon fork

  • My LBS have the Triton, I find it's surprisingly heavy.

  • get one out to me in NZ, and it'll get a full and proper test....

  • The Triton is a well thought out bike in my opinion. Looking at the geometry it should handle nicely on the road, and be pretty good for longish distances. I may be showing my age, but things like mudguard and rack mounts really sell it for me. I reckon this would do weekday commutes, and lightly loaded (with rack) weekend road trips, nicely.

  • back the the fem specific question, no, I don't think their are a female specific track bikes that aren't a custom make.

Check out sweet pea if you have allot of cash and allot of time for waiting.
