I'm in too.
Lebowski - want any help planning the route? As I posted earlier, would be nice to cut further west. I know some lovely lanes round there and we can go up Devil's Dyke into town - another shitty hill, but a contrast from Ditchling. Devil's Dyke also has a pub at the top with great views. Could be a good place to have a revivifying shandy(?!) and regroup for the descent into town...

i'll be in as well, not sure which group yet.
i think would be good to have the route through warning lid, some beautiful and deserted roads out that way...

Sounds like a plan...
i was going to try and man it on me own before i joined this forum....

I'm in too, riding home is always good. Will probably jump in with the medium lot (Max I'm following your lead).
I also recommend we take the slightly west route via warninglid. very nice country lanes and a change from the usual route.

I talked to quite a few people about this yesterday, so thought I should bump it up.
@m-xl, I'm not too fussed which route we take, just as long as all the groups take the same route.

i think m-xl was having a play on bikely so there might be a route ready to go
-

Man in the white coat says i'll have both arms come end of july. its a push so one foot in medium one on the train Mmmmmm
I knocked up some posters to place on those hidden junctions (i might make an early run and place them up?). i'll PM them over. it should help keep things flowing.

hey everyone
here's a route i plotted
on bikely.
basically, the first half is brett's route, which a lot of people know, i think. the second half takes us west from Turners Hill through some nice small lanes down towards the coast. quite flat, too.
then we go up devil's dyke, which isn't as much of a pig as the beacon. it's steadier, with a couple of kicks. at the top, there's a big pub (where the route doubles back on itself), where we could regroup for refreshment and roll into town together.
four or five miles from there is all downhill, and it's an easy ride to tescos and the nice beaches towards hove.
it's just a suggestion - for a bit of variety - and i'll go and reccy the second half (from turners hill onwards) and post some detailed directions if we decide this is a good way to go.
cheers

looks a good route from my p.o.v...
what are we planning when we get down? Will i need to wear my grill slinger on the ride down?
-
• #91
Yeah, lets try and avoid the Beacon. Done it once. Dont think I really need to do it again to be honest! the other route sounds great
-
• #92
kelvin, if i had one of those bad boys i'd never take it off...
-
• #93
Nice one m-xl. That route looks great, and it's a fantastic idea for everyone to regroup before we roll into town. The fact that we regroup at a pub on top of Devil's Dyke is even better.
-
• #94
they have ice cream van at the top too
-
• #95
Sounds like a fine idea, I'm definitely turning right at the pier
-
• #96
DAmn I am lovin that grill slinger!

fair enough guys - always up for different routes. one thing though - were we not doing the hill climb on the beacon the same day - obviously not. i don't mind. i guess i should look up the old thread but feeling a bit lazy

i think we thought in the end that we didn't want to hijack a social day focused on drinking with a minority interest slog up a steep hill.
doing 50 miles and then having to change cogs and stop for a couple of hours while people do the hill climb wouldn't be to everyone's taste, and the main ride (and the beers/bbq etc) are more important.
plus this is a nice route and a bit of a change... don't want all the london people getting brighton fatigue!
cheers
PS - we're still working on the hill climb !!!

• #99
yeah plus i need more training before the hill climb!

It's probably about time we resurected this thread.
To summarise: Sat 2nd August, ride down to Brighton in 3 groups, stock up on food and drink when we get there, then party on the beach until we get too tired/drunk, then train it home.
August looks like being a busy month for lfgss events. Best get this in the diary's now!
