• TheWatchMan, check out one of the threads on off the peg bikes. I can't be arsed to find the ulr but a quick search will find it for you. Loads of good bikes for not alot of money, plus they should hold their value too.

It's a sticky in the BIKES & BITS thread..
    http://www.londonfgss.com/thread2287.html

  • this is not a drill people, i shit you not, i am this stupid.

right. in that case you're REALLy weird.

buy what you you want man. it's a cheap bike. not like you're gambling with millions of pounds worth of other people's money.

    oh wait...

  • He must be fucking bored. Doesn't he have Tynan to look after? Or some hills to double fist?

  • I don't think many people on here have dealt with trolls before. So people on here get a bit more upset than say your average postwhore. Nevermind.. I'm fucking bored today.. can't wait to leave..
    Lalalalala blahaha hehehehe awwooooogah! etc

  • Searching for threads mentioning the bikes listed in the off the peg thread and reading through them helped me a lot. Many useful hours worth of info if you look for it, in my opinion anyway

ditto. kind of wish i'd spent a bit more time on there. hey ho.

  • He's not an alias.

He's got a point... we could just help people. Yeah some people get it wrong, but to pounce before we're sure or not whether someone is trying to wind us up or lay a joke on us... or whether they're really serious.

My workmate asked me where is a good place to buy a bike last week. He asked whether Argos is OK? Or should he go to a bike shop like Halfords? His budget was £150. Full of the right spirit (getting on a bike), but a little in shock after I told him that he should double his budget and at least go to Evans.

Point is... go easy, we're still in that early part of summer where newbies want to get on bikes. Even if it's not our thing and we don't want to touch the bike they'd buy, we should at least show courtesy towards other soon-to-be cyclists, no?

TheWatchMan... the Specialized Langster would be a fine choice, or the Charge Plug. Check the link I posted earlier, and see if either is in your budget.

  • how about a specialize globe? any good for the inner city run?

  • Certainly seems the case today! Instead of actually doing any editing I'm learning all kinds of exciting terms like "dick brain" and "ass clown"

It was 'cockbrain' - and it's seeming even more apt as the thread develops.

  • Oh, and TheWatchMan... understand that you've walked into a hornets nest of avid cyclists who are rather protective of the community we've got going. You really might get more help from the CyclingPlus forums when it comes to plain commuters, the bikes we commute on could arguably not be the most practical for all.

  • Lalalalala blahaha hehehehe awwooooogah! etc

    It's with an 'r' not multiple 'w's

    Spell check Hoopy. Spell check.

How can i help you Happy?

  • watchman...

i think the route youre taking look at ebay, gumtree etc for hybrids sensible.
As i'm sure theyre being left like a xmas puppy. Specially since the SS FG thing is already popular, you can nab a bargain for a bike which is maybe a year old.

    good luck

    Shinscar

  • TheWatchMan, bike are not like cars with a few easy models to remember there are so many standard models and many people ride custom bikes so could you please link to any bike you are curious about.

Any bike will be fine (although ideally not an mbt with fat tyres) your not traveling a long distance so as long as you're comfy it does not matter.

  • I said arguably... I'd be arguing it's a fine choice, but as it wouldn't be the choice of the majority of Londoners it's definitely an arguable thing... they would argue a commuter or tourer makes more sense (with pannier capabilities and full mudguards).

  • If he's not an alias, and not a troll, then he has had nothing but help earlier in the week VB, in fact people seemed to be incredibly helpful. I didn't think Bring's comment about a BMX warranted such an aggressive response.

I've totally lost interest, I am feeding this thread, be it feeding a troll or just someone who wants to ask a hundred permutations of the same question and then be massively aggressive when someone pokes the smallest bit of fun at either their thread or just bling bmx bikes. I don't recall Arrospok Boy coming back with anything except "ah ah ah" and he unleashed a phenomenon. Comparitively he would now have blowtorched most of Greater London if he had taken a bit of fun as badly.

Trolls are lame and you know you are, wasting other people's time and emotions under cover of anonymity. Get a life.

  • sorry that was written over a few minutes while I poached some eggs. May seem to go over old ground.

    I'm out.

  • So what's your argument vb?

  • fruit i thought you had a fuji... what you riding? mercian?

  • @watchman. billy big-balls has 2,250 posts on this forum and is a decent boy (well, not really, but you get the point).

what size bike do you want? if you don't know: how tall are you?

  • Shin, I used to have a Fuji. But I'm now back on my (beautiful) Jackson

    Stop calling me 'Bring', assclown.

  • im 6 1.

i understand that some people don't like heated arguments, but others do. i'm not in love with them or anything, but they can be good for venting anger.

venting anger isn't necessairly a bad tthing.

anywho, thanks to anyone that's helping me here, if i knew something i would advise you.

poke ror trading, holler at me and i'll hook you up!

  • Your best bet is to go to a local bike shop/Evans and try out as many bikes you can possibly get the folks to allow you to ride. You may be a little tall for the bikes they have on the floor, but you will get the idea.

Or get a Brompton. Loads of traders ride them.

Sorry, another dig, but did you go to the same school as Chris Crash? And where are the grammar police today?
