alright guys.
anyone be able to help me out, I need to start coming to the thursday rides now, fitness levels are dropping way low, but the gearing on the fixie is terrible.
got a 42 on the front at the mo, what would you suggest to pair that with on the back?
also, will need a bit of help gettin the lockring off, it seems to be made of cheese and i just end up hammering a notch into it when i try n get it off.cheers
SamGear inch calculator here http://software.bareknucklebrigade.com/rabbit.applet.html
You want anything between 70 (spinny) to 78 (not so) gear inches.
ultimate is about 72-74 for cambridge roads.
Id's say stick a 15T on the back for a nice gearing or 16T if you wanna spin spin spinGo to Rick and Andy and get dat lockring off. Otherwise look for the biggest chizel and hammer in the house and twat it like you've never twated it before.

make sure you're hammering the right way to get a lock ring off ie. clockwise.
apologies if you know this already and are just suffering from a cheesy ring.

hi all,
just joined...nice to see a dedicated cambridge thread. seen fixers on the rise around the city too...often a nice chromed out classic looking number chained up next to a stall opposite monsoon/that dinky card shop just down from office...looks sweet.
thinking about joining in the ride but wondering how far/long you guys go, where from and when and how much training i need to do to avoid embarrassment?!
also...i just had a genesis flyer stolen from my house...2007 model - white frame, black carbon forks, mavic wheels, spd's...supreme being sticker on the down tube at the crank end. i bought it from light blue and the chap who runs the workshop there has reportedly seen a 'toerag' on it heading up to chesterton with 2 other 'toerags'.
axa have kindly declined to insure so ideally need to find it and serve justice. it's a small city and i'd be super grateful of any sightings. a chav on a fixer is as likely as an ashtray on a motorbike so should stick out..any help massively appreciated - can offer any form of alcohol (or whatever your poison is) as a reward.
see you around

sorry to hear about your bike, do you have any pictures of it you could post up? lots of us roam the city by the day (i'm not one) and will keep an eye out for you, notify you of it's whereabouts, etcyou don't need to train, but thursdays are normally 20~ miles and we do that in just over an hour. riding in a big group is brilliant fun and you can slip the fast ones to keep your speed up. the pack normally splits into two (fast and slow) but you'll never be alone.
our euro's polo comp is coming up next week so some of us are likely to be playing polo this thursday as practice, although there are bound to be folk riding from the maypole at 7ish.

hey bogey,
cheers for the comeback and the suggestion re. keeping a look out. the bike was 99% OTP so i never really bothered creating bike porn. it's the 2007 so it looks exactly like this...
...except it has spds fitted...might still have a speedo (right side of bar, with cable running down the right fork) plus LED's fitted front (left side of bar) and back (seat post). its got a fitting attached for a rear wheel rainguard near the top of the downtube and its also set up to freewheel.it has this small SB logo (but reversed so white is black and vv) as a sticker on the downtube
other than that nothing major to speak of..was in perfect condition.
have just bought a new bike via cyclescam which nicely softened the blow and i pick it up early next week so will be there for next thurs
how many peeps come out?
thanks again bro

good job i'm sure the cambridge locals will see the pic and keep their eyes peeled for ya! might be a good idea to walk around the bike shops to give them a heads up incase someone tries to flog it
we get a variety of numbers, i'm sure we've had upto 20 people in recent times which rocks as cars really notice a big group.

true...i've been pretty loyal to light blue since i bought so don't really know where else to go...plus it seems a few have gone out of biz lately (like mikes bikes) but i guess it'd be all about the second hand shops...any suggestions?

Hey was thinking of coming along to this i have been riding fixed for a while now started riding a bit of distance recently! what sort of speed does the group travel at?
-
• #517
17-18mph average?

17-18mph average?
I'd say that's pretty dead on. I'm one of the slowest so it's unlikely you'll be left behind.
