Highly recommended! So light and very waterproof. Perfect for layering!

i use a montane velocity dt jacket and it's great. folds up into a tiny package you can just stuff in your bag, or great for riding in. it is very thin but i just layer up in the winter or wear a good baselayer underneath and it keeps me warm. and it only weighs 220g so it's nice and light too.

Just bought the h2o that Dog's recommends, lets see if it lives up to the hype.
That said even if it does I'm still going to be taking a spare pair of strides in my bag.

FYI - for those of you who are looking for a new waterproof jacket and want one of the Montane H2O ones mentioned above, Chain Reaction has a small amount of Mediums and some XLs in Black for £35.

nice.
anyone know what the fit is like? is it the a "big" xl or smaller xl...
-
• #136
im 6'3" and the large h2o fits nicely. a little too short in the arms for me generally, but for the bike thats a perfect fit.

Size chart at the bottom of the page on the link.
XL is a 45" chest - a touch large for me but for £35 I'm not going to quibble.

ive got a couple of jackets, but i cant find anything that doesnt make me incredably hot after 10mins of riding.
i normally ride with a t shirt and a jersey on top, which is perfect while riding, but the moment i stop i become very cold.

Same problem for me melon. I end up up getting so sweaty using most waterproofs that I'm really just better off getting rained on. I'll try to remember to post something once I use the thing in anger.

why not get a soft shell then, much comfier than a waterproof and most have water resistance.
I have an old Nike one that is still great, and a Howies one with a fleece lining that I have worn all through this crappy weather, then just throw a waterproof over if it's really heavy rain. -

Oh I have one of the Milwaukee hoodies - they're brilliant - but far too warm for this weather

Nice ride in this morning in the rain and a chance to breakout the Montane H20 jacket. Excellent purchase. Kept me very dry and I didn't end up felling like I'd been in a sauna. Ventilation on the move is great and when you're not moving the fabric keeps heat in so you don't get too cold.
Cheers for the recommendation Dogsballs.

mine gets a fraction damp on the inside with long rides now, but thats after wearing it a bit during winter.

I just wear a large chrome bag over the top of my winter jersey - very waterproof! My arms end up getting wet, though.
EDIT: I wear the bag on my back, not as a jacket obvs

Paramo Vasco.
My jacket is the older 'Cuzco' version. Used every spring/autumn/winter commuting ride since 2004. Excellent comfort & breathability. Never experience condensation build-up. Warm enough over T shirt down to 0 deg C. Good waterproofness + ability to re-proof using Nickwax TX. Looks nice and casual off the bike. Best jacket I've owned (others being Berghaus, Polaris, Gill, Altura etc.) Negatives are cost (eek!) and slightly poor durability of fabric (noticeable along hem & cuffs. Have had hem repaired by Paramo at cost of £30).

Spiny, I was just going to post recommending Paramo. I had a Velez Smock that (before it was stolen) was the best jacket I've ever owned, for everything. I sweat profusely and it was never uncomfortable. Even has a saggy bit at the back for cycling. Absolutely waterproof (I think they collaborate with NikWax) and comes in a range of dodgy colours.
A replacement is on my list of "things to get after I have money", right after those pedals that your feet clip into that everyone's always on about.

Couldn't agree more, Seeds. The cut and fit of the Cuzco is perfect (for me). Mine is the dodgy stealth blue colour (but has the reflective piping - of course).
Major commiserations on having yours stolen (the b******s) and hope you can afford to replace it soon.
Are you talking of the Time Atacs? After the reviews here, they are on my 'want' list too!
