more the merrier hillbilly!!
I would think it will be the 7th but poss 14th will confirm next week (tues/weds). Leave the west end after some food and beers (optional) and head out!
will add the date later this week!

just checked the date of the bhf run and it is 15th, so i think that means that it will deffo be 7th!!

i live in brighton, but i'm up for getting the train to london to do this and maybe i could show people round brighton a bit when we get there. i can't do the 14th though.
-
• #8
ps. what are we going to need i terms of lights. are there going to be streetlamps all the way?
-
• #9
just working on the route but lights will be a deffo i think!!
The date will be the 7th for any one interested, crustlord more the merrier and any guidance on breakfasts etc always welcome! -

Good lights required. There are some fast hills and you don't want to outrun the throw of your light beam.. bad things can happen.

• #11
hmm could be up for this as well, getting the train up and riding back down....any guestiamtes on times? I normally work sundays so could be a long ride to work for me haha!
-
• #12
we"ll probabley leave around 9/10, nice easy pace, few wrong turns! stops for food and drink, get to brighton breakfast then train back, nap on the beach if the weather is good!

Brett has a route that people have taken to Brighton twice. I'm sure he won't mind me adding the link to his Bikely site of the route, plus an zip file attachment for a cheatsheet (originally added the the last L2B ride post). Not sure how the roads would be though for middle of the night riding though.
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/London-to-Brighton
By the way, this is the same day as the Smithfield Nocturne, so perhaps link the two together?? (see post below)
http://www.londonfgss.com/thread5405.html
EDIT It seems as though the zip file with the cheatsheet is now corrupted (yes, I know you have to click 'save' rather than 'open'), I'll be able to get it off Brett tomorrow (or he can post it on here himself if he wants).

good call Sam! maybe meet up there and leave from smithfield ??!!
-
• #15
by the way the map link works fine for me! thanks for that!!
-
• #16
sounds like a good plan is coming together!
-

Here's a zipped up version of the route sheet (I hope).
You need to save the file first, rather than just open.

I hope there are never street light all the way from London to Brighton.

I may well join Lewis in coming up from Brighton to join you. I've cycled that route a few times (not in the dark though!). It gets pretty hilly around Haywards Heath! And I'm not sure if I'll get up the Beacon on my current gearing... all good practice for the Dynamo, though.

BTW - no streetlights outside the M25, except for maybe Haywards Heath.

• #21
i may well be up for this but defo going to the smithfield nocturne too. so if they are combined then cool. would have to be a really leisurely pace if the idea is getting there in time for breakfast. brighton just ain't that far.
and a +1 for Brett's route - it has become the official lfgss route after all.

I think that this will be a "fun" trip, nothing to serious, if you can't get up the hills cool! This is just me and a few mates having a laugh, getting away for the night having a few beers and riding our bikes!!
I think that we will leave smithfield or soho late evening so we can stop at a couple of boozers on the way. Then ride and stop at a couple of places on the way, like i said nothing mental! -
• #23
brakeless bikes, beers, darkness and (possibly) inadequate lights. sounds like fun. count me in!
-
• #24
I'm considering this too. Would come up with m-xl and lewis.
what is it like cycling down country lanes in the middle of the night?

it's fuckin awesome.
Hi me and a few of mates are doing a Saturday night ride from soho to brighton beach and i wanted to see if any one else fancied it?!
Just a bit of a laugh really a few stops and a steady pace more of a cruise than a race me thinks!
Working on the route but nothing complicated and getting the train back at lunch time after breakfast and a nap on the beach!
let me know!
