  • Yeah, Hoffman's "Bicycle Day"
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_LSD#Bicycle_Day

Three days later, April 19, 1943, Hofmann performed a self-experiment to determine the true effects of LSD, intentionally ingesting 250 micrograms of the substance, an amount he predicted to be a threshold dose (an actual threshold dose is 20 micrograms).[6] Less than an hour later, Hofmann experienced sudden and intense changes in perception. He asked his laboratory assistant to escort him home and, as use of motor vehicles was prohibited because of wartime restrictions, they had to make the journey on a bicycle. On the way, Hofmann’s condition rapidly deteriorated as he struggled with feelings of anxiety, alternatingly believing the next-door neighbor was a malevolent witch, that he was going insane, and the LSD had poisoned him. When the house doctor arrived, however, he could detect no physical abnormalities, save for a pair of incredibly dilated pupils. Hofmann was reassured, and soon his terror began to give way to a sense of good fortune and enjoyment, as he later wrote
... little by little I could begin to enjoy the unprecedented colors and plays of shapes that persisted behind my closed eyes. Kaleidoscopic, fantastic images surged in on me, alternating, variegated, opening and then closing themselves in circles and spirals, exploding in colored fountains, rearranging and hybridizing themselves in constant flux ...
The events of the first LSD trip, now known as “Bicycle Day”, after the bicycle ride home, proved to Hofmann that he had indeed made a significant discovery. A psychoactive substance with extraordinary potency, capable of causing paradigm shifts of consciousness in incredibly low doses, Hofmann foresaw the drug as a powerful psychiatric tool; because of its intense and introspective nature, he couldn’t imagine anyone using it recreationally.[7]

"because of its intense and introspective nature, he couldn’t imagine anyone using it recreationally"

    Little did he know...

  • its like cycling into a Kaleidoscope

    would not advise it

much like my lefr eyes then.

  • ive ridden my bike a few times on acid before. its always been a case of being a long way from home and having to make the journey.

its actually not that bad and physically im fine, but like everything else when im on acid, it is very funny. very very funny.

i think its kind of amazing he lived to such an old age.

ive done plenty of acid but im yet to see anything other than a bent version of reality.

  • ... and end up spending the next 3 days in a mates house.

    Good shit.
i cycled on acid once (well twice as I made the return trip, if you excuse the pun), started with a plesant narcotic fueled weekend... At about 4 am on Monday morning I found the last tab and figured I might as well take it... Around 8 I felt relatively sober so decided to cycle to college... My college at the time was on the a24, which I duely rode up for a couple of miles before deciding the way the road was lapping on the pavent like the waves lapping over the edge of a swimming pool probably meant I should get off and walk... I tried to get to the pavement, but it seemed to receed each time I stepped towards it and I only had a little way to go so I figured if I couldn't get to the pavement cycling along the central reservation would be the best idea... I don't remember any cars at all... I then spent a mixed day at college (film studies watching 'a close shave' by Scorsese was bad, but biology was amazing) before riding over to my friends to try to reconstruct my beleif system after my biology teacher told me that all animals on earth are only here to reproduce.

  • Not read the article but Albert Hoffman discovered acid while pedalling home one evening. I do recall "penny farthing" blotters on the anniversary of his birth

no penny farthing in these blotters

    RIP Albert

  • Louis, that sounds amaz\ing.

  • I can't even remember starting this thread.

  • Louis, that sounds amaz\ing.

It was... I've not done a trip for over ten years now (over the counter mushrooms don't count)... This thread realy makes me want to do one again... Best not though... Kids and all that...

    ...

  • Yeah. I've never tried it and it always sounds funny.

  • lsdbikes.com

literally, LSD on a bike.. ha!

  • What? "An error occurred please try again"?

  • I was trying to work out why you would need a limited slip differential on a bike...

  • I've not done a trip for over ten years now (over the counter mushrooms don't count)... This thread realy makes me want to do one again... Best not though... Kids and all that...

    ...

Never give acid to your kids.

(Save it for you and the missus).

TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY FUCKING MICROGRAMS..?!???!!!! Jesus wept. That just burst my bubble in a massive way.

The only person I know who ever did anything like that was the fucked hippy dude who'd leaned his elbow into a bowl of neat liquid acid while they were prepping the tabs before a festival and was walking around saying "Lick my hand. It's a big spoon!!" They had no idea how much he'd absorbed via his skin, cos he'd spilled much of the bowl across the bench top. He was FUCKED though. Too fucked to ride a bike, that's for sure.

I now have a new drugs challenge to meet before I die!! Who's up for Acid Time Trials..?

  • Dibs or should that be dabs?

  • i had to ride to the offie at some stupid hour tripping off my nuts, got there okish, but couldn't say or do any bloodything when i got there, so rode back.

  • @Tea bee

    In!

  • TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY FUCKING MICROGRAMS..?!???!!!! Jesus wept. That just burst my bubble in a massive way.

250ug was a fairly standard thing back in the sixties, I'm told (by elderly hippies). Part of the reason for all the LSD horror stories not matching anyone's actual recent experience - the "recreational" dose has fallen off a lot.

  • In terms of huge doses, the 'Thumbprint' takes some beating. This guy (Chinacat72) used to be a member of the Grateful Dead's inner circle 'The Family' and this thread tells of his initiation with LSD by way of a thumbful of virtually pure LSD crystal - interesting and scary reading - his revelations are spread over the thread - I think he may have linked to the full blown 'story' somewhere on here too:

I've cycled at the tail end of Mushrooms before....bendy!!

  • Pretty interesting tale there. I love their concept of initiation. :S)
