  • right then. so i assume that most people have a route or maybe several that they ride routinely. mine is broad lane tottenham hale to paddington station or reverse. last night on a full stomach carrying the heaviest bag i have ever brought to london i managed to beast my personal best and get 33:56. i think the fact that it was nine in the evening on a sunday helped. as did the drum and bass in my ears. dont know how far it is but i was well happy. so how about everyone else? where do you go and how long does it take?

  • This evening I think... Tottenham Court Road to Chiswick in just over 20 minutes.

  • 45 minutes to the Esso station in Kings Road to buy orange juice after a good night at the Old Ship with the Westies.

  • tonight was my pb, i did what usually takes me 18-20 mins (in traffic) in under 10mins so that I wouldnt miss the chinese takeaway. ohhhh yeeahhhhhhh.

  • tooting bec to cleveland street (balham high street, clapham common, wandsworth, chelsea bridge, sloane square, hyde park, mortimer street). 34 minutes.
i think i can probably get it down to 30 if i push it.

always faster on the way to work. coming back is a bugger.

  • I do Streatham to Stanmore and back each day generally 1.02/3.

After badminton i can get back in 53 minutes, done it twice now, does being warmed up make that much difference?

  • West Ealing to Liverpool St in 45min, stopping for lights.

  • Dublin to Bray and back (40 miles) in 1hour 40 minutes.

  • Woolwich to Hyde park corner 40 - 45 min.
Woolwich to Euston a bit under 40 min I think.

I never check the times properly to get a better accuracy than with in 5 min.

I wouls like to see the times for motor bikes and see how much faster they would be.

  • Ham side of richmond park > regents street 39min (on a hybrid!)(edit....early morning but did stop for lights, peds, arseholes etc).

Can't be arsed to even attempt a faster effort these days though.

  • Also Ham side of Richmond Park to Farringdon in 38 mins on a road bike. I jumped lights and nearly killed myself several times. But it was worth risking my life to shave two minutes off my previous personal best.

Ditched the computer two years ago when I started commuting on fixed and I don't wear a watch so I have no idea how long I take now.

  • fulham broadway to stoke newington in 32mins (not taking any life-threatening risks).

  • East Dulwich to Russell Square in 16 mins - that was on the geared one tho. No computer or watch with the fixed, but same route in around 20-22 mins on average, 18 best. RLJs left right and centre :)

  • Commercial Street to Muswell hill - 29 mins.
Weird cos I did that with a hangover - sometimes for no reason at all i just fly along - other times when i should be in good shape i just can't get going.
Always quick with a few pints in me mind...

  • North end of Great Portland St to Shepherds bush in under 15 mins (Note: after watching Mash SF)
    and

Angel to Shepherds bush in just under 25.

  • Dublin to Bray and back (40 miles) in 1hour 40 minutes.

    That's a 25mph average, init. Were you wearing a skinsuit :P

  • Streatham Common - Hackney Central (11.5 miles) in approx 35 mins (very lucky with traffic & lights - took a few risks)
On a bad day it can take almost an hour in the other direction (due mainly to Brixton Hill but also 1 way systems etc)

  • Bottom of Poland Street to home in West Ealing - 9.7 miles in 33min. Stopping for lights like a good boy. Spun 37mph down Holland Park Rd in rush hour traffic, which was nice. Pulled a groin muscle by the end of it all, which wasn't.

  • my route is kilburn (near the tube) to upper ground (sea containers house). never timed it. plus lately i've been varying my route and stopping to take pictures of things and arseing about a lot.

tell you what i *do *do that's even more autistic though. i count red lights. Well, I only did it once but still it's pretty sad no? Yep, the other day i counted all the lights i jumped and didn't jump on my way in. I jumped red lights only if there was no-one else coming and stopped if there were any pedestrians around or traffic crossing my path.

    jumped 28 reds
stopped or slowed up for 18 reds
    had 16 greens

got me thinking that if i'd waited at all those "soft" reds it could have added another 20 mins onto my 30 min journey.

  • i think i would lose count if i counted the traffic laws i break as i ride

  • work to home in 20mins last night which is about 6.5miles
I was wearing a t-shirt and didn't want to get caught in the rain.
usualy takes about 25-30 depending on how much I want/don't want to get
    to home or work.

  • clapton to putney in around 40 minutes.
It was a traffic free sunday morning (6 am), and I was having fun.

  • West of Chiswick to Victoria Station, 21 1/2 minutes on a Brompton. No RLJ'ing.

Have managed it in about 18 minutes before on my road bike.

I used to do Chiswick to Cannon Street in about 24 on my old MTB.

  • Twin pines mall to hill valley town square (30 years in the past) in mere seconds...

  • my front room to my back room (on a bike) in ten seconds.
Added difficulty of the tiny door+ raised bottom bit of it.
