Sparky, dude yeh not much going on, there are NFG meets. But they are few and far between(good crowd though). But allways up for a spin, I have people's mobiles numbers so if you want I could get the kids together for a blast. Only slight problem is Swobo is sick, my level hub decided to unbolt it's cog, bending my chain and possibly my chainring. For the love of god I am even finking of putting my front brake back on....is brakeless riding really sustainable for long periods without serious costs?

i'm studying at the art school in norwich.

would good to see some pictures (bikes.) on here or some links -

Norwich is my non-term time town however I actually live about 20 miles west, possibly up for some kind of ride depending on my feelings on long distance riding after massive food consumption.

I'm there at the moment, with my bright green Fuji. I'm thinking of a jaunt out to Cromer, train back, if that sounds tempting? Friday or Saturday morning, trains permitting... Work off some of that Christmas lunch...

I'm staying at my folks over Christmas, I was going to bring my bike up and I'm not entirely sure why I didn't. Kinda regret it now, would have been well up for going for a ride on Christmas Day.

I'm in Norwich, regularly ride my fixed, though must admit that I ride it as a winter training bike rather than ride gears.
I try and get out at least 4 times a week doing about 50 miles each time, these rides are a mix of solo and a few mates, at weekends I ride with my club doing about 140 miles over the weekend but most of them ride single speeds rather than fixed (I'm trying to educate them in the errors of their ways :) )
I'm always on the look out for people to ride with, and find nothing better than going out, having a racer tag on my wheel for a draft, then come past me saying I nearly showed them up by being on a single/fixed, only for me to sail past them on the rises :D:D:D

Anyone who wants a ride can get me on 07974 918855. I'm up for Norwich fixed drinks, too, let me know when it's happening.

Mrs. Butcher
me and a couple of friends ride around 50 miles west of norwich, geared an fixed, holt/fakenham area, close to you ?. we are not fast or young, but usually do at least 50m. either pm us or reply on this thread -
• #38
Today was interesting a small group of us decided on short notice to go for a ride, we did 60m at just under 20mph average, what made it nice was we had Emma Pooley out with us, man she is a pocket rocket, at one point she went round me and the group speed jumped 5-6mph in a few yards.
I'm up for meeting and rides during next week if weather is good and others fancy it, nice and easy or push harder I'm easy

I'm K.I.A at the moment, bike is in the struts and I've just had that damned winter bug. But once I'm feeding the penguins again lets hustle it up for a big night ride? If we make a route using the google map tool? Suggestions: Starting place maybe the forum? Keep it in the city? Low milage 15-20m? Drinks after? Choose a metro time; i.e 6pm on a Friday?- to make the most of Norwich as a budding, neon, blaring, bladerunning simulacra. I'll put a post up on the facebook NFG page as well, should get at least 20 people.
Mypethip I see a pomp alot at the hospital with a freewheel and F&B brakes-yours?
Heart attack my limit is 17mph average for around 30 miles these days. But a few years ago when I was at the top of my game, I went out with the Pitt St boys on a saturday, that nearly finished me off, just got faster and faster and the run into Norwich itself was an all out chain gang. -

I may well be about for a Fri evening meet.
LOL on the VC Norwich/Pitt St ride, thats my club, today was a mild 60 miles, avg speed to the coast was only 17mph, coming back as you say a little more fun, nice and easy 18-19 till Buxton then it was 23+, and once we got to Spixworth it jumped again :) according to my computer the last 7 miles were an average of 27.3mph, it gets easier week by week and although I ride my fixed as a training bike its great fun knowing that there are fewer geared riders in front of me than behind :)

Heart attack my limit is 17mph average for around 30 miles these days. But a few years ago when I was at the top of my gameForgot to say I'd probably be frowned on as mine is a Langster and has both brakes, winter guards 49x16 gearing.
Going from your comment on few years ago at the top of your game, what does that make me as I'm 44 and in my first year of riding since being at school (ex smoker, recovering from HA 12 months ago today).
Lets go for a spin in the country, I know a few great rolling routes heading out past the UEA

Well used to be a courier(Gofers in Norwich) and my HB on waking, I'm sure once I counted it at 38. Was doing a 1000m a month, never used to sweat. But didn't really drink much water during the day so maybbee that's an explanation...+I was 22. As I shudder to discover that max heartbeat is 220-age that makes me a few beats slower now- sorry got a bit of a turning 30 complexia.
Heh didn't mean to be a FG snob, but yes I have swobo(the original BLB's wannabe) and I do(try) to ride brakeless, but my ratio is a measly 42/16. My steed came with a 48 ring, but I had to downscale-I have to see eye to eye with Earlham Rd every day. So respect to your 49.
Defintely up for a ride though. Once me and my bike are sorted I'll let you know, then I can start stocking up on wholewheat pasta. You know about the Norwich fixed gear facebook page? You can view it without having a profile: http://en-gb.facebook.com/group.php?gid=21389565707 -

I know Gofers, I used to work for them when they started as Norfolk Speed, though I was on a motorbike.
No worries on maybe coming across as a FG snob, I knew it wasn't meant to be derogatory or anything, plus as I read this site I also understand that there is more to this than what I want from it, so opening my eyes is good even if its not for me.
Lets not go near the recommended HR of 220 - age, my max is 196 so that makes me 24 which is great by me as I just lost 20 years :-D, and if you have a complex with hitting 30 wait till you hit 40 its more fun. Respect for you doing Earlham road daily, I do Plumstead Rd and the ring road and thats enough for commuting I'm much happier out in the county big or little roads.
49 ring was picked to give me the right sort of speed and cadence I needed to rock and roll on training rides, sometimes its hard others its easy, hill round the coast are an effort but each time I go up I get faster so I must be doing something right.
Cheers for the link, I'll join it as long as you all don't mind an old roadie in the mist, see you soon

When are you guys thinking of going? I'm in if you don't mind?
Also, Heart Attack, did I just spot you on a white Langster near M&S? I've just moved back from London so I've gone from spotting a few hundred fixed riders a day to one, or none - I feel like yelling hello when I catch one!

Sorry not me, mine is the green version, though only the frame is standard now, everything else is switched out, plus I'm rarely in the city as too many thieving bar stewards about, unless I'm off to Cycle Republic and then the bike goes inside with me
-
• #46
Hmmm cycle republic, I brought my continental ultra from them the other day, lasting a lot longer than the hardcase I had on previously- although I've had more punctures.
My lBS is streetlife, where I regurarly indulge my fixed mentatlity. 3 or so dudes in there are single speed, Tim was saying he was sub 5hrs in the Norwich 100. HA do you know Russel then? He was a motorcycle/cycle courier for a couple of years for gofers. Big big guy with a roguish air, currently destroys mountain bikes. +Sparky look out for the guy around Earlham Rd, classic case of all the gear no idea. He's got the little hat, customised old roadster, cut shorts and but no speed. Muhahahahahahaar

Norwich 100 was fun, I just missed out on the 5 hour by 6 mins 13 secs, though I did have a puncture just after Reepham :( and I was on the race bike not fixed, saying that I quite fancy having a pop at it this year on the fixed, though I'd want to know the route ahead so I can try a couple of different gears, saying that I know I'll end up on the racer going for time.
Nice choice on tyres, I also run Ultra's well the gatorskin version, done over 2000 miles this winter on them and only 1 puncture, not as grippy as my race tyres but then again they are lasting a lot longer. I also occasionally use Streetlife when I'm in the area, they managed to get me some specialized bits that no other LBS could so they got my full marks, its just they don't carry a lot of the top end bits that when I need then I need them so to speak.
