I went for one this morning but Sparky is feeling a bit fragile today, bless him. Many drinks were drunk last night.

Yeah, sorry, sore head. We'll arrange something, though. How far'd you go, Dan?

10 miles or so this morning and another 25 or so just now. Went the same route as yesterday, but went a way past Rockland St Mary - lovely roads out there, dead quiet. My legs are objecting less to going round at silly speeds now so made quite good time on the evening ride.
Edit: 15mph average speed - is that good?

Compared to what? I do my commute in 1:40, which is 24.5 miles - how fast is that?
Lance Armstrong would probably do it a little quicker, though, for example, and my grandmother would do it slower.

That's 14.7mph average. Would all depend on traffic, terrain, wind direction anyway I guess.

Oww.. my knees..

I went through Rockland St Mary today as well, along the national cycle route as far as Mundham , which is just after Loddon. Came back throuh Whitlingham park, which must have the most potholey road in existance.
42 miles with an average speed of 13mph.

You students and your holidays.. the place has been pretty quiet! Fancy getting involved in our weekly night-rides?

• #167
Wow, just started on LFGSS, surprised but pleased to see Naaaarch people on here. Just thinking of the old place brings a smile to my face.

I was riding round Norwich for days and days and I spotted no-one.
Today though, there was a guy on a fluoro green frame coming up by St Andrews, but I was walking.

Have to say we seem to be few and far between. There's Sparky (green pimped Fuji Track), Mark (Fuji Track), Ben (vintage black w/ fenders) and me (black Holdsworth) that I know of.. Think we'll see an influx of riders as the students return though.
What & where do you ride plurabelle?

I've got a blue Flying Scot conversion and a red and white track bike. My parents live in south norfolk (where I'm from) and I've been staying with them for a couple of weeks, so I've been cycling in to Norwich and back most days to do my work while sitting in cafes. It's a 30 mile round trip but after being in Scotland for a few years the flatness makes it seem much less... :-) Nice smooth roads and fuck all traffic, too. I've been loving it, unlike when I was a teenager here and only used to ride as far as the pub and the fag shop.
Actually just picked up a lovely Holdsworth road bike for not much, from a guy on the Norwich road who has a massive garage full of old bikes. It has a decent condition Shimano 600 groupset, perfect paintwork, etc. I was just riding past and saw a load of bikes piled on top of each other. He reckoned he'd just sold a Pinarello for a hundred quid or something. Hmmm...

Ooh, what else does he have?
Also, I've been seeing a few fixed gears around with one or no brakes and no foot retention. If you're one of them, sort it out! And brakeless, freewheel BMX, don't even get me started....
Sorry, rant over. Let's sort a ride out! Who'd be up for this Friday? Me and Burman are in.

• #172
Um, no, I'm not.
He had nothing else at all of any interest, sadly.

Sorry, plurabelle, didn't mean 'you' as in 'you', just at Norwich in general. Seen loads recently, including some near misses. Just drives me bonkers. There was one idiot who plowed straight into the train station at about 15mph. Someone's going to get hit soon, and we'll all be tarred with the same idiocy brush.

Gotcha. The cycling seems pretty relaxed in general up here, I thought. lots of old ladies on bikes round town, which I love.

ha I just met some kids in canterbury, one with a brand new bob jackson, no straps or clips, no brakes, couldn't even skid on my bike with straps. SUICIDE! Anyway loads of 3rd year art school fixed guys have left which is a shame. Nevertherless there are five cyclists in my house, 2 fixed bikes, 1 single speed and a couple of geared race. Hopefully this will help to bump up the norwich cycling seen, just keep in touch when anyone is on a ride.
Are you guys still here / still up for a ride today?
