i did the ride from norwich to caister near great yarmouth and back a few times over easter on my fixed, which is like 22 miles each way and didn't take too long so i can't imagine 50 would be impossible

I'll be in Norwich then, and I'm game, dubhe. Want to form a fixed contingent? How do you register?

www.bike-events.com it costs £16
I'm doing it with some friends who are on geared bikes, and I am hoping to prove to them that they don't need gears! However, bit worried about my current set up, I am running only 55 gear inches which is great for nipping around the city but I will need nearer 70 gi I think for a decent run.
Sparky, happy to meet up on the ride, I might have trouble keeping up (see above para) but the day is more about a social ride for charity than a race which is cool.

Cool, I'll tag along if that's OK? I'm running 48:16, which I find is spot-on for the flat, flat, flat country around The Fine City.

I'm probably up for this. I'm also riding 48:16.
I rode 30 miles last saturday and made it up all the hills without getting off (down to 3mph on one though). That was south from Norwich, north is flatter isn't it? -

Not if you go to Cromer, Sheringham , Holt or Blakeney
There's a terminal moraine from the last ice age there.

Anyone in Suffolk reading this? I'm planning on joining a gentle ride with CTC this sunday, fixed, anybody care to join? Start is in Ipswich, ends near Stowmarket somewhere. I'll be riding to near Southwold after tea on my own, probably try to get some quick miles in for that bit...
I posted a thread yesterday about it...

Norfolk does not do Suffolk.

Where's the Suffolk thread then?

Oooh, nice thread. I'm from the southern wastelands of Norfolk. Cycled there my whole life – you've got to love the flatness. I live in Glasgow but will be back in Narge this summer, with my bike. Having a bit of trouble re-figuring it in my mind as a hipster paradise :) Will keep an eye out for you lot.

I lived in Stowmarket, haha.
Might be back that way at the weekend on family related business.
Will have a look at Ctc. -

Try Wells, Cley , Walsingham. Holt and Sheringham but avoiding the coast road unless it's early morning or evening .
And beware of old shuck....
-
• #116
Black Shuck, you mean?
-
• #117
That's the very dog
I avoid the beach at Sheringham after dark because of him.

Anyone up for a ride this weekend? Norwich to the coast, Cromer, maybe?
-

Also, is anyone on here the guy on the single-speed beach cruiser, sans brakes, who came down the huge hill on the Avenues today, one-handed, dragging one foot along on the floor? A staggering display of recklessness, really awe-inspiring.

Anyone up for a ride this afternoon/evening? 20 miles or so.

Hello everyone, i am a Norwich boy through and through and have just moved back here from Brighton. Just building my first fixed gear, will be asking plenty of questions over the next few weeks in the mechanics section.

Hmmm gas hill would that be possible in 42/16?
Technically, yes (I remember some nuts kid doing it on a BMX when I was about 13).
Hah! I used to ride up that hill all the time on various lil' beemers in the mid-nineties: chrome framed Raleigh Burners, some oval 4130 tubed Peugeot, S&M Dirtbikes, Wifebeaters, Schwinn jobbies. Was always a proof to self type hill when I was 12-16yo, after a couple of times up it became quite a comfortable(pfft...) ascent especially with 42-16 on 20" wheels. It used to be the first challenge before hitting the few bomb holes and trails in Mousehold Woods.
Happy days, thanks for reminding me.

I'm meant to be doing the Suffolk Coast ride for charidee at the weekend but neither my road bike nor my fixed wheel is ready yet. Does anyone have a bike I could borrow for 24 hours from Saturday night? Preferably geared and in good nick.

Backbreaker GT........
Anyone here doing Norwich 50 on June 7th? I am thinking about it but never done that many miles on a single speed, I use mine mainly for nipping around the city.
