reported to be RLJ
If you read the comments on thisislondon, someone said that their friend witnessed it and doesn't know where the claims of RLJ came from. It constantly amazes me that most times you read those comments, they blame the cyclist. And normally it's reported that 'a cyclist collided with a lorry' and not the other way round – Cyclists don't collide with lorries, lorries hit us.

Jesus H. Hit and run, such devastation. That driver needs to go to jail. Fuck the compensation, he should be behind bars... and then he should be forced to compensate after that much has been achieved. He could've killed you, and plainly did not care.
That exactly my feelings. The criminal charges are more important than the compensation.

Of course, but a good lawyer who specialises in cycle related stuff is a good start. and dont forget its the twat in the cars fault for your loss of earnings due to injuries, fu**ed bike, etc. Its more important that he goes down, but also very unlikely, at least get as much out of him as possible.

Completely agree. According to reports, the lorry actually ran over the guys head, but one onlooker has said that they "weren't sure whether the cyclist was wearing a helmet or not..." - How is a bit of plastic is going to help when a HGV actually runs over your bonce? That newspaper report includes so much veiled cyclist bashing it's untrue.

Really sorry to hear about this, hope you recover soon. Saw a similar thing nearly happen last night - except the car just crashed into the barrier and the cyclist rode off, which is a better way round.

If I have this right, you were cycling along, this 4x4 pulled out around you (to your right) - saw the bollards and swerved back in - ?
Is that correct ?
Yeah. He began to overtake me, saw the bollards and then swerved back in.
Also he was found to be over the drinking limit. I am fortunate to come from a family of academics (Older brother AND sister are lawyers) so there taking care of that side of things.
Again thanks for both the advice and the kind words. I shall keep you updated with how things are going.

Hope you're on the mend Vinz.
Take the fucker to the cleaners.

Yeah. He began to overtake me, saw the bollards and then swerved back in.
Unbelievable.

Excellent, just excellent. :D
Maybe get a newspaper to cover this ? 4x4 v Cyclist.
Hope you make a fast recovery.

Vinz, get well soon. I had a few nasty offs, but nothing that required even 30 stiches, much less 184 stitches. I agree with almost everything the folks above have said. Can I only recommend a neck brace, and I'm "sure" your back may not be feeling the same eh? In that case, your legally-knowledgable siblings will be smiling at the thought of you wafting past in any vehicle of your choice, 2 wheeled or 4. Back and neck injuries pay out the most, as far as I am aware.
Good luck, and I hope you get what you deserve, which I think should be an insurance-paid-for rest in Hawaii. Then come back to a Colnago, or similar.

Jesus fella, get well soon - take the cunt to the cleaners!
-
• #113
He was drunk as well?! LOL.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear he was also on the phone, while steering with his feet & wearing a blind-fold. What a twat.
The plus side is that makes him more likely to go to jail. (I fucking hope).
-
• #114
Get well soon, be careful all.
-
• #115
fuckin hell, hope you´ll have a speedy recovery!
-
• #116
UPDATE: Not sure what the specific charges were but the driver has received a 3 years Prison sentence and a 2 year driving ban. I have also received substantial amount of compensation.
Im having surgery tomorrow to have plastic surgery on my arm as it is missing a substantial amount of skin! Luckily I have a fat arse that has some skin to spare! Anyway thank you for all the good words and advice.
-
• #117
Well done Vinz, that's great news. Best of luck with the surgery.
-
• #118
'kin hell justice is pretty swift round your way!
-
• #119
That is what I was thinking.

That's what I was thinking. We need some of that down here.
That's a proper result though Vinz, best of luck with the surgery, heal fast.
-
• #121
Wahey! some justice being served.
Best wishes for the surgery. -
• #122
Well done hope the op goes well. Is the two year driving ban not pointless if his sentence is three years though?
-
• #123
I think that a prison sentence was deserved - glad that the drunken driver got some comeuppence!
Heal well vinz. -
• #124
Driving ban starts after release.
-
• #125
Fair play Vinz, good luck with the recovery and getting back on the road.
Agreed, very swift process from incident to cell. Let's hope he/she can have a nice long think about it
If it was in London, they'd still be quizzing you to try and find out if it was your fault or not
Attempted murder and theft?
As I understand the original story, the driver drove off with the bike?
