I was under the distinct impression that most of the Levi's worn in this country are actually made in Scotland.
I don't see that as unethical.
American Apparel on the other hand...
Are American Apparel unethical?

ok maybe there's a few levis plants in Europe that don't fit into the unethical slot but they have developing nation plants that are sweatshops!
You can buy 'Made in the USA' Levi's, but it will cost you around $200 / £120 for a pair (before shipping and duty of course)

Its about as third world are london. Except up here we breath fresh air and not smog and can actually drink the water out our taps.
I went to Edinburgh once and the pubs would not serve me a drink on a Sunday morning. That's pretty fucking 3rd world if you ask me.

all cycling clothing is otp, unless you have it tailor made... just saying...
Bollocks. Just you wait. I'll start a new 'Current Jeans Projects' thread soon so people can post their plans for which belt, locks, and braces they're going to build their jeans with.

Has anybody seen these? (hope the link works, I'm on my phone)
A search for Levi's and Levi's commuter didn't show anything so I'm hoping there isn't a thread about this elsewhere.
I was in NYC last week and saw then. They look and sound good and are comfortable on. Pretty reasonable over there aswell at $78 which was about £50 on my exchange rate.
A thread especially for jeans, thats...injeanious...apologies

While in the states recently, I picked up two pairs of these... The Navy ones that are jeans, and the beige ones which look slightly more like Dickies.
Never before have I had so much blue dye rub off onto my skin, my hands, my trainers and my pants... just from walking around in them. I've washed them three times now, on their own, and the dye is still rubbing off. They are really really comfortable but they could be improved in a few areas.

^ I bought a pair in Toronto - I concur about the dye. They are comfortable jeans though

Anywhere to order the Levi's commuters that will ship to the UK?
-
• #514
Well I have a mate go to New york with specific instructions just to get me them. Into Levi's and they have none.... Great luck that is

Levi's US flagship store in San Francisco didn't even carry them. Urban Outfitters across the street (dare I admit that I shopped in there) had a few pairs.
Considering how Levi's are a 'San Francisco' based company, I asked how much their LVC jeans were (the only jeans they sell that are still made in the USA)... "All pairs, $250"

http://www.rapha.cc/rapha-jeansThanks for your offer by the way - I was a little bit preoccupied with A&E abd getting back to work and I forgot to reply!
I'm a 31" waist so they'd be both too tight and far too long for me.
Also, I only realised who TiLover was about two weeks ago!

When I was in New York in 2008 I went out to one of those mega discount shopping malls and was enticed by the prices at the Levi's shop. I bought a pair of what I now believe to be 501 Original shrink-to-fit in indigo. I hadn't a clue about jeans at the time so I grabbed a pair of 30" waist, 30" leg and headed up to the cash desk to pay. The guy there told me to buy 30Wx32L or 30Wx34L as they'll shrink. Again, I was clueless so I just picked one. Unsure which now. I wore them, then washed them by themselves, then washed them some more. Fairly regular washes at 40º. I think I still have them but they're really short in the leg and look crap now.
My question is, what was I actually meant to do with these jeans? I think they had great potential if only I'd treated them properly. The reason I ask if that I'm thinking of getting another pair. This time I might get the selvedge ones too (I know it's been asked before but what does this mean? just better jeans because the denim's better?).

I think Levi's Vintage Clothing were the only jeans they sell that are shrink to fit. This is a new website they've just put together with quite a lot of info by the looks of things. They do also sell prewashed 505s that should shrink less or not at all.
I'm aware they've now also started selling 'Premium' 501s which are also made of selvedge denim which will most likely shrink too.
To answer your question about Selvage – Wikipedia goes into great length to explain it : )

Yeah, I read that. It explains what it is well but doesn't really explain why selvedge denim is seen as better than the usual stuff

Heavier, more durable, more attention to detail etc etc. If you're in London, there is a Levi's Vintage Clothing store on Carnaby Street and a regular Levi's store on Regent Street a few blocks away. Go take a look and compare yourself, it's the best way to see.

I'm not in London. I'm going to go to the big shop in San Francisco. Apparently they can dip you, and your jeans, in a big bath of water then blowdry you.

I got some proper made in San Fransisco Levis from about 2003. Super nice quality with S.F embossed buttons and 'Jerky' leather back patch.(I've been told this, I know not what it means) Baggy as fuck though and not my cup of tea anymore so think it might be time to pass them on. Need re-hemming I'd reckon (Son of Stag do thst type of stuff). 34w/32l ish and the nicest denim I've ever worn.

Yeah not sure about that one... Didn't see anything like that recently. They do have an in house tailor though if you want adjustments made.
Since when London water are undrinkable?
