  • did roberto ride his mountain bike all the way there, then?

  • Was a real treat to meet you all at the Millpond in Cambridge, never seen so many cool bikes and riders in this town before ,was totally gobsmacked. Must be fate as that pub isn't my local and i was just going down there for a beer after work , would have tightened my chain if i'd known. thanx for the welcome, card and beer ,hopefully see you on the next outing.

    Harvey (Chrome frame ,Gold Velocitys)

  • Excellent day gentlemen.

After I got home and took a shower did I realise that the only thing that prevented me form getting sunburned was the fine layer of dirt, aka nature's sunblock.

    Total distances were -

Hyde Park Corner to Cambridge - 74.89 miles
Polo Court to Cambridge - 70.29 miles

Corny's right, the best part of the day is the beer swilling train ride back. Hillbilly's "Corny, you could have exploded!" is still making me laugh.

Shall we start organising the next one to Oxford?

  • yes, get the oxford trip on.
I'll even come down to cycle back up.

Also this sounds amazing, I spent yesterday in a library.

  • Here's some numbers:

35 people. 75 miles. On the road for 8.5 hours. Top speed of 34mph. In 27 degree heat. I drank 6 litres of water, probably could have done with 1 or 2 more.

Absolutely awesome day. Apart from the minor stack at the beginning, I can honestly say I loved every minute of that ride. And Cambridge was fantastic. So many cute girls on bikes!

Thanks to everyone for making the ride. We may have been going too fast or too slow for some, we may have taken too long and got lost a bit too often, but that's all part of a group ride, and I'll take that over slogging it out on my own for 75 miles any day.

    Bring on the next one.

  • fuck i'm so gutted to have missed this one!

  • I must agree with corny half the fun of the ride is the train back

its not often youv'e been drinking and do trackstands on a moving train

  • Another fantastic day out. Thanks to everyone for making it such a great ride. £100 spent on booze and it lasted about an hour!

Surprsingly, all that hurts are the tops of my arms where I have some sunburn. I must have been really dehydrated. I kept waking up in the night in search of water.

Must plan another one soon. How about Winchester or something bit further maybe 80 miles in preparation for Dunwich Dynamo?

  • that was one excellent day, sorry for bumping the pace up corny :)
well done andy for sorting this,(and screaming like a bitch) so fucking glad i went, beautiful weather, route and company. props to the guy with the cramp (sorry forgot your name man) and 50x14 for not crashing into anyone :)
good to put some more names to faces, flew back afterwards, didn't get lost for a change.
gladly do it again. (next time print out a bloody map:) good to bump into you guys at the other end, asseeonfix, fc9k etc.
the guys that didn't do it, missed out on a great day.

  • props to the guy with the cramp (sorry forgot your name man)

I don't know his forum name? (edit: it's Dzidzor)

Anyway, this is where it all went wrong form him:

I stayed back with him for a bit after this happened (even made sure we had our own directions), but thanks to you guys for holding up for us (otherwise we may not have found you for the beers!). He was hurting pretty bad. And like me was riding a stupid 48x16 (which I just found out was 79.1" on my already slow Armadillo. Pancake my ass).

  • corny and slow punctures, doh!! heal well big fella :)

  • Pancake my ass).

    yeah jonny

  • Good ride everyone! Was one of the best rides I've ever been on. Massive shout out to everyone who done it, even bigger shout out to people who went down but got up and finished! It had good pace(maybe a little fast for some)and even better atmosphere. the train ride home was alot of fun. I think the beers had a big part to play in that:-)
Really loking forward to the next big one.

Heres a few pics I managed to take along the way

  • Ok that did'nt work. I'll get them up here soon.

  • Well that was a great ride and I had a phat time. For me all up 90 miles (super spin 66inches) in just under six hours in the saddle so I'm happy even if my arse hurts, and I'm sunburnt. In England who would have thought it!! Great top meet new people and see guys from the Brighton ride. Lots of awesome bikes so now it's time to customise my ride.

  • Just one thing. How about a ride to Hastings on sea, I just love the fish n chips over here.

  • you must be mad.

I was born in Rye, just up the road. a medieval maritime town

edit: actually I was born in hastings, rye didn't have a hospital and my parents were down from London

  • I had noticed that the peeps on here like the sea side and fish and chips and beer and it's all there in Hastings isn't it?
    Is the town no good?

  • it's known mainly for poverty and heroin

  • You're not wrong. I'm from near there, it's not the nicest of places!

  • Ok I will take the advice of locals and steer well clear of the place. cheers guys

  • well, all coastal towns have a certain toughness about them, it's part of the english charm.

unfortunately the fish n chips and beer isn't usually that good.

to be fair I haven't a clue what hastings is like these days, I've rarely visited the place. maybe it's all ponsey wine bars and gastro pubs?

  • Anyone else find they are unable to stop eating and drinking ( water ) today?

  • mike - get a load of tonic water down your neck

It's got a load of minerals in it that help with rehydration and can prevent cramps kicking in and a couple of bananas help for energy and they're packed with potassium which will also help you rehydrate.

    Dr Crippen.

  • people, hands doing to the best ride I have never done, fantastic!!

today sore, but happy and glad that I did it, my girlfriend was asking me "will you do it again"

hell yes!!! no today, was of course yes!!

Lewosky, Corny, John who was never post, Emile, Jeyjo (correct espelling?), Stompy, the dude

that come form Hull, and so namy others that I don't remeber your mane.....

fucking awseome people, thank you all for make thius feel like a buch of friend that I haven't meet

before, if this is the normal aptitude count with me for every single ride you plan.

    Fun, fun, fun...
