hi there,
the open toolbox is a really good idea and very decent of you to donate the proceeds. apolegies for the out of the blue contact, i am fairly new to the site and also the fixed gear way of riding.
got a question and be grateful of any advice or assistance...........
i recently bought the genesis flyer and sold off the wheelset it came with. i bought the mavic ellipse wheelset which i now ride free with a flip flop hub. i would like to convert it to fixed and have been advised that i need a cog and chain ring. a member of staff advised me to get the chain ring and cog direct from mavic - something to do with the spacing...........
would appreciate if you could advise on what need to convert my current set up to a fixed gear.......
many thanks.

Catchchee, you need a cog and a lockring, the lockring prevents the cog from working loose. Bring your bike along tomorrow - i'm sure knowledgeable folk will be happy to advise.

thanks playswellwithotters...... i was told by the guy at evans that i should get the lockring from mavic themselves as every manufacturer is different (ie. shimano etc). can i get the cog from any shop?
unfortunately, i cannot make it tomorrow. is the workshop run weekly as i would like to bring the bike over next week if possible.
cheers

hello, just wondering if this is happening tomorrow. would like to swap cogs and have no chainwhip/lockring tool, etc. nor have i ever done it previously, so i don't want to end up with a slipping lockring and/or bleeding knuckles...
am heading to the shop now and will pick up some carlsberg just in case it is up and running tomorrowcheers

Awesome. Can we butcher a seatpost with a wedge mod tomorrow?
-
• #143
no more poles left though
Can I come by and get my mallet back tomorrow before polo? (red handle, carharrt sticker)? Ive been looking for it all week. Last night I drunkenly fell over it.
