  • Exactly what came to my mind!

  • Twitter links are pretty much a useless commodity now, you’re gonna have to post screenshots

  • meta launch threads, wonder if it'll lead to the explosion / implosion of twitter

I guess we'll find out the day after.

  • I took one look at all the personal data it collects and pissed myself in the middle of Sheffield.

  • …aaaaand I’m out.

  • Excellent, saves me the hassle then.

  • Also, if you create a Threads account then decide to delete it, you have to delete your Instagram account too.

  • I’ve you have Instagram or Facebook the chances are it has all that info already though, right?

  • It showed me LadBaby

  • Boo, back to being able to look at Tweets without being logged in.

  • Almost as if they didn't think that change through and wondered where 80% of their traffic went

  • Once you have a Threads account, you can’t delete it without deleting your IG account as well. So that’s nice.

  • I’m actually more annoyed that Zuck had the chance to put Elno on the floor, and he’s fucked it.

  • Seeing quite a few people on my Instagram posting their new threads accounts. I just don’t see the point/can’t be arsed. Quite a few of them are people who left twitter and have been banging on about how great life is without it so not sure why they’d bother to sign up to another similar service.

  • AI troll bots are all the rage on Twitter now. Some of them are quite good at it, although the people falling for it are rather stupid.

  • The latest strategy is to share ad revenue with users who generate a lot of engagement. In theory, this could be a win by encouraging much of the user base to post more "engaging" content. Only blue-tick users with very large follower and tweet-view counts even qualify, but the idea is the rest will be inspired. What could go wrong? Well...

    1. It's likely to increase the most extreme behaviour on the site, making the general quality worse and hurting ad revenue more.
    2. An unwritten extra constraint at the moment seems to be that you have to be someone Musk follows and these days that's almost entirely a list of Nazi edgelords. See point 1.

In reality, the most it'll probably achieve is encourage a few more people to buy Twitter Blue. But by now we all know that they'd need an unfeasibly huge number of paid users to fix their cash flow problems. Hence the positive impact will probably be tiny and wiped out by a significant negative.
