a fine example of begging the question, as it happens.

Totally. People have been misidentifying "people interested in pop culture and contemporary fashion" as hipsters on here for years.
Having said that... hipster (in it's current useage) still holds for me in certain insances. I was in Shoreditch yesterday and the phrase "friendly bombs" kept popping into my head. So much identikit bought tribalism.
For me that's really what differentiates recent post-modern, post internet yoot fashion and culture and it's what, I suspect, raises hackles with a slightly older demographic who fought in the trenches of whatever cultural niche they ended up in...
There's loads of positives that have come out of the freeing up of all that stored up hipness but the blatant commercialisation along with the cheapness and disposable, interchangable nature of it means that nothing feels real anymore. Everythings ironic. Everything's hip. Everyone's a hipster.
It's very unsettling for my generation, hence the derision I suspect. Personally, I try to embrace my disquiet and examine it. Ask why I'm perterbed and if so, should I be? If it turns out no, I try to get on board and generally live and let live. I do wobble from time to time. I'm only human.

Even the footie thread is being infected with it... :(
Few reasons to be here after the death of polo and the memes thread...
No. You just don't like the usual bias being reversed. I'm yet to hear anything when new followers on your side of the fence suddenly turn up on the eve of a final or post final win. Most of the claims that have historically come 'our' way are yet to be substantiated.

What about all the Nu-Folk wankers who are old enough to know better and definitely not classed as 'young people playing with the fashion of their time'?
