From reading through the Wikipedia page about Cnut, I have learned that the received wisdom about tidegate is actually inaccurate as well, and that actually it was a display of his humility rather than arrogance. So being a Cnut is probably quite a positive trait.

This was how I was taught the story. Either the curriculum got dumber or people just don't listen.
