Yep, I remember Black Wire. Two of my course mates moved down to London with them a couple of years back. I bumped into the former front man in Dalston not long ago. They really throught they were the next big thing. I was more of a Cribs fan. People used to ask me if I was related to the Jarman brothers (could never work out if it was an insult or a compliment). Suppose it's got something to do with my connections there and the fact that I used to get free backstage passes to all the gigs I went to.
I know Pigs well as I used to work for Wire that was part of the same group as Hifi and Faversham. Lots of good memories!
Yeah thats' it the Hi Fi, I saw a BW gig there, got a bit rowdy and was eventually immortalised in the song 'I Predict a Riot, I Predict a Riot'

Are you saying the London Hipster is infact Northern in origin?
It started in Leeds, where every shop is a hairdressers.

Yeah there was a lot of buzz around Black Wire at the time, then they moved to London and disintegrated. Probably writing couples blogs and having new age fun with a vintage feel now.

Surprising as this sounds, it is also very true.

Deckchair chic:
From this this blog, which has been dismantled by Vice, and criticised by The Guardian, rather amusingly.
Mate, have you been abroad or in a cave for the last week?

shudders at yet again this thread reminding me of things from my past
Spent a summer in Leeds years ago and remember being confused at how everyone could be so 'fashionable' and 'indie'. Spent far too much time at The Cockpit and the Fav with a group of guys and gals who were friends with Black Wire, everyone brown-nosed them so much! Being a non-drinker I soon got bored of the parties and drugs and ridiculous behaviour though. I remember Stinky Pete!

The Fav was great when it was painted in black rubberised paint and all the seating was fucked. The playlist was The Cure, Nephilim, Damned, etc...
Then they closed it, relaunched it as a student gaff and barred the goths from going. The HiFi used to be called Scrumpies - a legendary rock club that reeked of piss and only sold bottles. The Saturday afternoon piss ups were pretty good. Same thing happened there. Re-opened as a bar and the rockers were told to fuck off somewhere else. We all went to Le Phonographique, but they went and closed that one too.
My mate saved the day and opened a quality Rock/Indie/Goth club in Bradford, so I just went there instead...

Saw Pink Grease and The Futureheads at the Fav, some little all-dayer, sadly, no goths.

You'd have seen me too then. And thus I've completed the hipster thread circle.
I bumped into one of the grease the other day. He completely denied he'd been in the band at all.
