Subtle changes, bugs and feedback

  • Little point telling me things... to resolve it we need people to sign up to the bug tracker, report that they're affected too... and follow instructions those engineers give as to how to gather evidence on things.

They need to know how to reproduce it, or how to conclude which component is causing it.

  • My partner has a mac. I'll try to reproduce and report in the next couple of days.

  • I couldn't replicate it using my wife's iPhone 14. She wasn't logged in though (not "on here"), wonder if that makes a difference.

  • Latest version of iOS and every time a new page loads it pops the cursor in the page number box and brings up the number pad- which is super annoying as this often leads to hitting a number by mistake when trying to close the number pad, jumping you to that page rather than the one you want to read.

  • Read the last page or so.

  • Yes.

Safari issue... there's a bug with webkit, but it needs those experiencing it to sign up to the bug tracker, engage with it, help reproduce it, follow instructions... and basically help the Apple devs figure it out.

I don't believe it's anything to do with this site... it's very standard JS and HTML. This is a Safari bug... and it needs someone with an iOS device to own it and drive getting them to resolve it.

  • Ha, didn't even clock that the bug screenshot was of your explanation of what to do with the bug.

  • TO ALL iOS USERS... the bug is here https://bugs.webkit.org/show_bug.cgi?id=245123

If you want it fixed... go engage with the bug report!

I cannot reproduce it, so cannot fix it. I'm not even sure how one tests HTML pages in iOS were I to purchase a device just to test this. It's an Apple problem.

  • So I've got this iPhone and blah blah

  • Can't reproduce this on 16.0.2. The reports above suggest it's a 16.1 issue?

    (which I haven't installed yet)

  • I've tried testing this on BrowserStack with iOS 16 and I couldn't replicate it there either.

This stackoverflow post seems to point to a potential problem with the pattern attribute on the <input>.

I've copied the HTML of this page and made a few tweaks as a test case. Can anyone with the issue click on each of these links and confirm if the number input opens?

    No

  • LFGSS is the only site that this problem occurs on, hence thinking that it was an LFGSS issue.

  • That's bizarre, the 'current.html' is just a copy of this page…
Does it generally happen on every page load, or just when navigating between pages, or after having pressed the back button, or any other action?

  • It happens on every page that the page number box is visible on when it loads, so if it loads mid-thread (below the number box) not pop-up.

  • This is how current html loads

  • No cursor in the number box, so no keypad pop-up (if I had to guess).

  • How about the test page linked from stack overflow?

  • Okay, well I'm out of ideas then. Thanks for the help anyway!

  • LFGSS continues to be the only site that does this (which I visit).

  • I get this on the “today” page on an iPhone and most pages, including this one. It’s not the end of the world, just a bit annoying. Never had it happen on any other site.
