Time Atac Pedals

  • I find Aliums very secure, would recommend.

  • Hardest ones I find to clip out of are the Time Z's.. they pretty much don't want to let me go once I've clipped in.

    • I found Aliums harder to clip out of than Atacs + Rocs ( I do only have older Aliums, however)
  • the only thing that looks shocking with them is the weight 430g per pair!! thats heavier than aliums, which seems impossible. It was the only real reason I switched from alium to XS (which I do prefer) but do seem to wear cleats quicker.

  • I do not recommend Z's. I don't find the tension any different and i broke them within about 6-8 weeks.

    Oldskoolftw

  • I got some Aliums today, unfortunately I could not get them on today my V12 won't come off :-(

LBS trip tomorrow to get them off.

  • Bear in mind that the left hand pedal is threaded in reverse?

  • Finally went clipless on my street tarck bike with some Sidi's and Time ATAC Alium's. Feels good, a bit weird because the only other clipless I use is Look Delta's on my road bike. Clipping in is slightly different, and there's hardly any float, but I'm putting that down to the pedals and cleats being brand new.

I'm runnign the cleats on the 17º "competition" setting because I'm paranoid about clipping out while skidding. I've only ridden them for about 30 minutes total, so I'll report back when I've given them a proper chance.

I'm just glad I can trackstand pretty easily.

  • There's some sprung float but nothing like the loose float you get on road pedals.

Clipping in/out will get a bit smoother after a few rides as the cleats wear in.

  • It appears that a crucial part of my pedal's fallen off, behold (the thingy the arrow's pointing to isn't there any more):

Don't know how it happened, or what this bit is called or how to replace it. Help!

  • you have a spare pedal on your road bike so take that off

it is the time atac locking cap that you are missing

    http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-283284.html

you should have noticed that the pedal was wobbling a lot before it came out as they keep the pedal bearing in tension too

it appears they have a propensity to fall out, but though listed as a spare part no one ever has them in stock

  • this happened to me on my last pair! they used to sell them on ebay, so keep looking.
I have seen them in america....http://www.upgradecycle.com/parts/pedals/accessories-cleats-parts/time-atac-alium-alium-hp-z-78669.html but not worth the money.
If you are not bothered about spin, but just want to stop play for a bit while you find a cap, you can stuff the axel with something...I found a piece of plastic which fitted perfect and lasted a little while with no problems.
You could also just buy a old pair of atacs on ebay which often go cheap you could strip for parts, its always handy to have pedal spares!

  • Anybody know if you can get replacement spring bars for the roc atac? Managed to snap one on each pedal.

    Hmm, interesting technique!

It does seem these frequently come loose.

Will keep my eyes peeled for cheap pedals and/or caps.

Fortunately, I could just install the ones off my road bike (which isn't getting much use at the moment).

  • ahem

Excellent Dr Bike service/rescue/general "you really ought to have noticed that sooner" comments from Dancing James today.

    Pedals installed superbly, thank you!

  • I've ordered some, will report back

Dammit - how did you rate these? I'm thinking about a pair. cheers

  • I have a pair that I rode to the end of my drive on and then removed. Had bought them the road bike but have got some period correct Looks for that now.

I'd sell them without cleats for £15 posted if you already have cleats?Just got some Sidi's and the cleats for my aliums are stuck on my old shoes.... I know that's not any saving, but if you already got cleats...

  • I'm using them currently on the Langster, they work fine- but the Q factor is really big.

If you clip/unclip a lot then the single sided thing might be a pain- I track stand LIKE A BOSS, so that's not an issue.

For the price, they are a good buy.

Next time I'd get some ROC's though.

  • really liking the Time Atac All Road gripper:

got them on the cargo bike and i'm really liking them, good for riding in "civilian" shoes

  • Max

Is their default side for the platform to be on top?

If so they could be really useful for a bike I lend to other people, it's ss so there is time to flip the pedal over to clip in, but for novice cyclists I am hoping the flat side is the one that naturally sits on top.

  • The bearings havent completely bedded in, so it depends, but most of the time it seems to be weighted so the flat side is down, but it's super easy to flip them over.

  • hmm

it's just i let trainees use one bike, at the moment i keep having to change the pedals between my atacs and some flat pedals

but for someone who has never ridden a bike things are complicated enough without asking them to flip pedals over

  • why not Atac Z's?

  • Atac Zs are terrible for riding in normal shoes. The spring protrudes and is super uncomfortable, same as riding on a pair of aliums.

  • AFAIK there's no default side for the Gripper, I used to have one, but after riding three constructive century for three days, it got to the point that it's plain annoying flipping it round.

they're pretty stiff which helped to stop it spinning around trying to put your feet on the flat.

Seemed to work brilliantly for you Max.
