I'm in the same position. When are you next out? I'll be there from July onwards and it'd be good to have somebody to ride with!
Yeah, I should be there from June until September-ish. I haven't really got a bike in working condition there at the moment, but I should have something by July. I'm going to be in Bed-Stuy, what about you?

Looks like I'll be spending 3 months in NYC over the summer. Want to keep my cycling up - is it easy enough to get out of the city for some decent road rides/clubs etc? Better to take mine or rent something while I'm out there?
Ill probably be in Manhattan.

Yes, it's easy to get out of the city up the Westside Hwy, over the GW Bridge and into NJ. There are other routes, but that's all I know so far.
Rapha store has a Freelancers Ride rolling out from the West Village at 10am every Wednesday. -

Sorry, totally missed this - I'll be in Bushwick most likely. I used to live in Bed Stuy years ago. If you fly with Virgin, you can take a bike (boxed or otherwise) for free as long as it isn't more than 23kgs (which it won't be).

Take your own, again if you fly with Virgin you can get it out FOC. And it's not too much of a hassle. Manhattan is decent enough, and a lot of fun bombing through traffic. You could go north out towards Woodchester or cross the bridges to Brooklyn and head out of town that way. It's also a really nice ride just heading to the beaches in South Brooklyn on a summer's day. Rockaway Beach has good surf too!

Yep, def take your own bike. Its expensive to rent bikes over there.
Also prospect park is great for laps if your feeling lazy

It is. I really must get out and do some laps. There's some fucking dodgy 'roadcraft' in there though, so be on your guard.

going to be in new york, midtown manhattan for four days, working mostly, with a bit of time in the evenings to drink and eat.
Any suggestions for food/drinks in that part of town. Will be taking a bike with me, but extended travel times aren't going to be doable during the day. Working 9-8pm.
Looking to probably do williamsburg (love riding over that bridge) on saturday night and brooklyn (carroll st/smith st) on the sunday night. But am open to switching that around...
Let me know

Le Relais de Venise L'entrecote on Lexington and E52nd. I used to work round the corner and would go most days.
Wouldnt recommend going out in midtown. dull corporate area

Corny, if you are into burgers, which I'm pretty sure you are, The Spotted Pig in the West Village do an awesome burger. Just bun, meat and blue cheese. Beware, it is $20 though.
Corner Bistro, just down the road do a much more reasonable $8 cheese/bacon burger which is pretty good too.

As pooface says heading to Carroll Gardens/ Cobbel Hill is a great shout (all the English people end up here) but I would say don't just stick to Bar Great Harry there are a ton of bars and restaurants all of which are great. Char No.4 is a whiskey bar of repute, for dinner try Butter Milk Channel, Frankies or Prime Meats (further south on Court). Up on Smith - Grocery is amazing. When riding take the Manhattan bridge rather than the Brooklyn and spend all your time in the county of Kings.

I am arrived. Anyone staying in NY - reach out to me.

I'm going to be in NYC alone and at a loose Enron Saturday, Sunday and Monday. What's the best way to get a bike? Citibike? How does it work? And where should I go?
-
• #418
Loose Enron?! Autocorrect... I meant loose end.

I did citibike a few weeks ago, was pretty good apart from a couple of stations wouldn't let me get bikes? Some stations are empty when you want a bike, not much coverage North Williamsburg or uptown, and because of the one way system if you miss a station to drop off you can end up going around a bit... Grab a free offline bike station map app to help... I used citi bike nyc app...

Citibike? More like Shittybike.
-
• #421
Citibike wouldn't take my card today, so I rented a shitty hybrid for two hours for the princely sum of $30 and went for a spin.

• #422
Well done for getting all the way up to Washington Heights!

Brooklyn has a rad new bike shop. Good coffee, sound owner, amazing bicycles. Workshop too.
