  • staying at some hostel on east 47th street, i just want something fixed for a few hours just to have done it.

  • Chari & Co are hiring out bikes now... $8 per day IIRC... Book in advance...

Or PM chris crash... If you dare...

  • where'd you see that?

  • somewhere in france

  • A place in Queens rents 'fixed' bikes now. I'll dig the site out.

  • i am off to new york for a week tomorrow with my bike.

anyone recommend stuff to do or any locals fancy going for a ride??

  • Meet Chris Crahs.

  • Joe

Head over the George Washington Bridge early on a Sunday morning and ride up to the state line with hundreds of other cyclists and enjoy the fall foliage and the spectacular views from the bridge at down.

Ride the cycle path around Manhattan, particularly the west side.

Visit Signature Cycles and swoon at the real live bike porn.

Ride over to Willamsburg inn Brooklyn and enjoy the sights of the hipsters.

    Watch out for potholes.

  • joe, go to borders and get hold of a guide book called not for tourists, website below, it is filled with good things. retails for about a tenner I think. Lists restaurants, bars, shops, etc.. whilst your there, you may want to buy a laminated map of brooklyn if you decide to go over to that lovely borough, nice bars and restaurants up on Smith St.

If your going to ride over the bridges, which you will do, brooklyn is the prettiest but has the most foot traffic, manhattan was my preffered option, the cycle path is on the left side of the bridge when your heading to brooklyn from manhattan, and the williamsburg bridge is a bit of a stomper..

go sit on the steps outside of the met, walk along the high line, which starts at the end of gansevoort in the meat packing district, roll through central park, and spend some time down in alphabet city, lots of good bars and eateries down there...

  • thanks for the tips guys

just read the t&cs properly and see that continental airlines want 100 dollars each way to take a bike (unless it is tiny - like a brompton). yet fucking kayaks are free!

    bollocks

  • hide your bike in a canoe :)

  • genius

perhaps take it apart and fit it in a suitcase?

  • i have got a proper case for it, and that is the problem... if any luggage exceeds 62 (157 cm) total linear inches (L + W + H) it gets a charge slapped on it.

i think i am going to pay it as it will be the tits to have my bike out there. but it is a liberty...

  • you can hire fixie skidders out there can't you? seem to remember that being mentioned here.

  • or buy bike out there....

  • i'd rather have my bike...

it will be 120 quid (sucks) both ways. how much would bike hire be for the week?

  • Manhattan Velo do rentals, but their website is beyond awful. Give them a bell.
    http://manhattanvelo.com/

  • According to Velorution, you can hire a Brompton for £70 (one week).

    http://www.velorution.biz/bike-hire/

I'm sure you can get an NYC equation for similar price.

  • a quick google tells me it is gonna be over 200 dollars to hire a bike for the week...

  • if anyone finds cheaper bike rental in nyc, do let me know...

could do without lugging that box around with me.

  • Perhaps talk to Velorution about hiring their Brompton to take to America for a week?

  • i don't really have the time to sort it out now ed, or a proper case for it...

and i will look waaaay cooler on my fixed cruising round central park. FACT!

  • If you have any interest in graffiti go to 5 points in Queens. The graff is really cool & If they still let you climb onto the roof you get a stunning view of Manhattan.
