Right then, I am now going to apply some HTFU to myself.
Kind of against medical advice, but in the spirit of "let's find out how well I am really healing", I am going to embark upon this ride. It'll be 5.5 weeks since my accident, with the consultant telling me that the bone should be totally healed in 6 weeks. Round 5.5 up, hey presto.
I may bail after the first 4 miless or so, depending on how it feels.
Look after me in the bunch guys.

Fuckyeah.
That is the kind of instruction that I get on well with.
I presume the intended effect is to build up a bouncy, protective layer of body fat?

...It'll be 5.5 weeks since my accident, with the consultant telling me that the bone should be totally healed in 6 weeks...
pretty much what the surgeons told me when i broke my clavicle. pain was gone after 4wks. but at the 6wk xray, it was till broken. was told to take it easy. at the 12wk xray, it was still separated with only scar tissues holding it in line. they finally concluded that it will remain that way from now on. oh well.
if you're feeling alright, go ahead. and turn your drops "up" daddy style so that you're riding upright (no weight on arms/elbow) ;)
but if you're 50-50 bout it, id go on the safe side and rest some more

That sounds like good advice ralph. Although I can't help thinking that the metal rods in the elbow may do a pretty good job of holding it all together. I'll make a call on the day, depending on how I feel.
Thanks :-)

Don't worry mashton, I'm bringing a few mountainbikes with me to hurl at any pedestrians that get within 20 feet of you :)

Questions.......
Who's the strongest rider? And can I attach a bungee cord to him/her, so I get a tow?
If not, who's bringing the defibrulator?
Just call me wheezinggaspingasthmaticfatboy for short. -

I have to buy lights for this. Well, I have to buy lights anyway, but this seems like a good opportunity. Are those cheap quality, not cheap price, rubber thingies worth the cash? The back one seems pretty good. Front, not so much.

@horatio: I have the 3led rear one, it's great, 1led front too, which is good for occasional rides, but for a longer ride i'd rather have something more visible.
I might bring out my crazy x2 halogen 6v lights tomorrow...

oh right we stuck to the original plan how unlike us !! i'll be there come rain or shine
On Sunday, in the stupid heat, my brother bumped into a couple of young lads mountain biking over some pretty exposed hillside in Cheltenham, right in the hottest part of the day.
He got chatting to them and noticed that they had bottles of Magners in their cages. he commented that they were wise to have camelbaks of water as well. Their response:
"Nah mate, they're full of homebrew scrumpy. GL, we calls it. Short for 'Gloucester Lager.'"
They had certainly hardened the fuck up and no mistake.
