• I got some doubles recently. Soooo much nicer than nylon singles!

• ahh thanks for the link! fixed gear gallery who'd of thought... not been there for months. that's it, i'm definitely sorting my pedals out- double straps, buttons everything.

• OK, I AM SORRY. But I feel very strongly about thieves, cunt drivers and the lack of policing around them. A bus driver was extremely aggressive towards me with no reason and then purposely hit me with his bus (188) a few weeks back. When the police arrived they treated me like the criminal and showed no interest in following up my complaint. So when I hear of stories like Danger Joel's my blood boils. I think if you're lucky enough to know/or have a link to the perpetrator something must be done- by any means necessary.

...even if its a sneaky banana up the tail pipe- they don't tend to like it up 'em!

• after he hit you with his bus, you shoulda chucked your bike through his front window like i did.

felt great.

• thats awesome lpg love

• Nah! I opened the engine hood and hit the emergency cut button. He was wasn't going anywhere.

• 188!! That's the number of my parents' house. Also my least favourite bus in the whole of London.

• I know.. the police just don't care, it's very sad.

tell us more! more interesting personal facts! don't stop, it's getting really exciting!

grooves - you want straps or not?

• My cat's name is duke.

• You'd spend £50 quid on a pair of trainers/sneakers/shoes/plimsoles/slippers.
Ditto for the "bike shoe" that you wear everyday isn't really so bad when you think about it.

And Toshis are sexy, strong and reliable.
Like the Milk Tray man.
In toe strap form.

• andrewleitch86
Multi Grooves Whats the score with straps? Single or double? Leather? laminated?

Double gives double the power
And clipless gives 4 times the power..

• Out of curiosity what straps would you recommend for MKS GR-9s? Doubles I assume...

• If you get off-the-shelf doubles you'll spend more on straps than you did on the pedals :D

It's dirty and you want it

• cheers peeps. I got lucky on a brand new pair of Dura Ace 7400s but I'm struggling to get my head around $100 for Toshi double straps(not inc P&P).

Good skillz fc9K!!! Loving that link for D.I.Y joining up 2 singles yourself. I'll take a little trip to Dept dirtford High street for some cheapo codura or leather.

fgg pedals

Pedals like that arent designed for 'whatever the hell shoes you want to wear' but hard soled cycling shoes.

I have some nice campagnolo ones and also used to have the shimano ones on a geared bike. If you wear thin soled shoes like vans, on long rides you can feel the shape of the pedal dig into the soles of your feet. When wearing thicker soled onitsuka's etc, you can feel the metal cages irratating your toes.

The most comfortable secure cages for fixed on the street is MKS mtb platform cage pedals, with the large plastic toeclip. The large plastic clips hold your foot deepdly and securely and fit one a wider range of shoes, easily fitting around chunky modern skate shoes aswell as skinny ones. Unlike metal cages which are more size specific, more likeley to snap & make a horrible noise when scraping along the ground.

Flat mtb pedals are also double sided which is convenient if your practicing tricks, in a fluster at traffic lights etc.

In terms of those shimano pedals, I had a 105 version with soft grey rubber toeclips, these were really comfortable and secure.

In general, I think getting a toeclip that fits properly is most important, then start worrying about double strapping.

• here is another version of self made doublers: http://flickr.com/photos/davidrmunson/sets/72157604552663160/

fuck the rivets and just sew them together, thats how i did it.

• Straps have always scared the crap out of me!

• okay. so i'm a self-confessed hipster and normally choose stuff according to aesthetics rather than price. i bought a pair of aluminium (i know, i know, but they were black!) mks toe clips and no-name laminated suede double straps from brick lane last week. this is a crap set-up. the toe clips are way too soft, and keep squishing down so that it's hard to get my toes into the clips. my campagnolo ones never did that. and the leather straps rub against the crank arm when i'm not strapped in, making it hard to turn the pedal over to get into them. bad combo. even worse, after only a week or so of riding, lots of the black paint has scratched off the clips.

i have campag clips and odge's straps on my holdsworth, and i've never had probs with them.

• I think there is a lesson there Teddy: don't be a Hipster; don't buy cheap shite!
