Brussels for the day, for work - I slightly overestimate how long a cab from mine to St Pancras would take. I allowed an hour. It took 15 minutes! FML
Then was sat next to a rude boy listening to the latest Tiny Tempah loudly on his headphones whilst a middle aged American couple behind me argued, and the woman started crying loudly. The area I was sitting also had the faint smell of vomit.Luckily I was too tired to care and passed out until Lille.
Not the nicest Eurostar experience I've ever had.Still I get taken out to lunch, talk to some guy about office moves then come home again this evening, so it ain't all bad.

Eurostar was better when you could get Duvel in the bar on the trains. A couple of those on the way home and it's snoozeville Tennessee. Mmmm.
Now you just have to remember to pick some up, or something even more Belgian, at Gare Du Midi.
I feel a Brussels day trip coming on.

Why Brussels, when you can go to any Belgian city for the same price? Bruges or Ghent would be much nicer and both have all the beery goodness.

Nowt wrong with Brussels...

Ghent is particularly lovely though.

Agreed, but would you want to spend an additional 2 hours of your day trip on the train?
There's plenty to see and do in Brussels.

Brussels is much uglier and rather more cyclist-unfriendly than the other two places I mentioned.

A certain shabby charm. Plenty of very beautiful art nouveau things to see, a shed load of museums and galleries, amazing bars and restaurants. Like a rough southern european city without all that Flemish bourgeois prissiness.
It's also got this!
What's not to like? -

Corny, I go by your place most mornings about 8:45...I can pick 'em up direct!

This, when travelling with an easily bored toddler.

They've stopped doing Duvel? Heresy! I was recommending the Eurostar Duvel to clefty on Monday, shame if that was in error. A few bottles of Rochefort 10 obtained beforehand would be a good alternative though.

This has nothing to do with beer but thought someone here might know: is there a signposted walking route (Green Chain or whatever) from Beckenham Place Park to the Horniman? I have a vague recollection of seeing a sign to the Horniman from BPP but the fact that I can't find anything about it on the internets suggests I might have imagined it.

I've definitely seen green chain signs by the horniman, and surrounding area....not sure if that helps!
-
• #12866
Cheers! Hopefully it will all come together. Failing that I'm sure my parents won't mind a leisurely stroll down the south circular.
-
• #12867
The Green Chain walk from BPP goes via Cator Park and Alexandra Road Recreation Ground then up towards Crystal Palace. I assume it then loops down towards the Horniman from there.

Cheers. Rain stopped pedestrian play in the end; apparently my parents are fairweather walkers. Had to buswanker it instead. Next time.
