    Natch. Off in a minute.

  • I'm out this week too....bit scared of ending up in a gay bar again! cheeseballs.

  • I'm out this week too....

Wise move. Save your energy for Saturday.

  • fuuuudge. Saturday. I know. I'm going to try to get there!

  • Not good enough. I promise no gay bars. OK, no bars.

  • just a bit too far north for me tonight.

    maybe next week.

when and where is easts xmas party ?

  • So which Wetherspoon's did people go to afterwards?

Having local knowledge, rhowe and I of course went to the Rochester Castle in Stoke Newington High Street. Did everybody else go to the Coronet? In which case, local knowledge FAIL to you. :)

    Great evening, though! Loved it.

  • We went to the Jolly Butcher. Local Knowledge win, Wetherspoons fail, going to a decent pub WIN!

    Quiz WIN!

Easts is in profit by £13 or so. Next easts (or the next time I go if not next time) first round uses up that £13.

Great evening guys and gals. I cannot adequately express just how much I needed that.

  • Ha, as I said to Russell, I walked past the JB and heard someone say 'Do a skid!' (not to me). I'm afraid to say I didn't follow it up, though, and I suppose the problem is that there is so little cycle parking outside the JB that I didn't see any bikes close to it. Everybody was saying 'let's go to the Wetherspoon', so that I thought that was what would happen. Never mind, we had a lovely pint in sedate surroundings. :)

  • So, if this is always going to be a mini gay bar pub crawl I suppose I won't turn up on foot again. :)

  • bike fail on your part.
To be fair, we passed the place, it was open, it looked way better than a wetherspoons, and so it turned out to be.

You're right about the lack of bike parking. That's why such a good pub never made it to the tour.

  • EASTS IS NOT DEAD

    there, I said it.

    (It's me that died. bleargh.)

  • The Jolly Butchers is all kinds of win. Best beer/ale/cider selection for miles.

    There you have it people.

If it only had decent bike parking it would be perfect.

    Shame.

  • Niall was instrumental in the quiz win this week... well done :)

Also, the Rochester Castle? and you had sedate surroundings you say? Lucky man, every time I go there (which is when I don't feel like cooking dinner and fancy a £5 burger/beer) there's always some elderly women having a stand-up screaming row.

And some way of keeping the cold out... Was freezing in there on Sunday afternoon.

And even more north than east. ;)

Not this time. In fact, I've never seen that. They must put it on especially for you. :)

It was a very nice end to a lovely evening.

  • I hope I will be free to come up next week.
If I'm allowed to cycle only few days before the holidays.

Last year, when I broke my hand before Christmas, I had to drive 2000 miles wearing a cast. Awkward. And I was supposed to go skiing.

  • A quality of the pub that is now the Jolly Butchers (and I think has had about four or five different incarnations since I've lived there) is that it is very open onto the street--large windows, etc. I think as the street is so traffic-choked, that hasn't worked to its advantage. It looks as if this incarnation will be a success. I should think that if the Lawrence Buildings rat-run is sorted out that the ambience outside the pub will increase a lot.

It's ALIIIIVE! Owen, I never thought I 'd hear that. What happened?

I saw a lone hipster weaving his way through Bangkok traffic jam last night, I don't know how he handles the farking choking, stinky, fluid that is Bangkok air. Makes London's air seem like that of a mountainous retreat.
