  • This week I think we'll do the Prince George. Details and thread change up later.

  • Sorry, I was away from the country and couldn't make it.

Glad to hear you're on tour - I'll try to catch up this Wednesday.

  • Me- 2 pints of cider g&t and a glass of tap water please
Barmaid- Sorry what was that? 2 pints of cider and a g&t? (ignores the water request)
Me- yes please and tap water (gives me a frowned look)
Barmaid- Dont do tap water (leaning in the bar pointing at the fridge)
    Me-ok
Barmaid serves the drinks and takes my money and than kindly informs me they have bottled water!

That place was quirky its a locals pub for local people.

Proper traditional east end hospitatility then....

  • At least he was served after all...

  • Right peeps,

This week, Wednesday 25th of August 2010, we're going to The Prince George.
It looks like a nice place in a lovely street on Google Street view with outside space and railings and bike stands to lock bikes to.
    40 Parkholme Road
    Hackney, London E8 3AG

On the corner of Wilton Way and Parkholme Rd

  • Cool. Looks nice. I've taken the afternoon off work so I'll see you there.

    See you tomorrow.

  • The PG has been a very good pub for a long time, but beware of a local bike theft problem--shouldn't affect Easts, as someone will probably be perving over the bikes at all times, but in case of rain and if we can't be outside, that might be a worry.

Just saw this story about the pub:

  • What does the sign on the fence say?

  • Hmmmm, that wasn't very clear, must go drink more tea, what I meant was:

Does the sign on the fence say something about "be nice to our neighbours" or something like "don't park your bike here"? Looks the bikes are not against the fence... Just asking...

  • Well it's one week only.
Unless we think it's awesome of course.

  • Our mission should we choose to accept it is to lock our steeds all over their fence tomorrow night.

Oh, and yes I am coming for once. Who else is in tomorrow?

  • Nice pub!
Only problem i see is that they seem to have noise/neighbours issues! As posted by Oliver above.
They seem to kind of lock down after about 9, only to use the side entrance with not much access or visual to the front. A bit disconcerting when bike locked outside!
Reckon I'll be there whatever though. cheers.

  • Its got lots of haircuts, and the beers are at hipster prices.

  • Sounds sucky!

PS: Yes I feeling grumpy, why do you ask?

  • Feel free to suggest more venues. At the pub.

  • See you tomorrow.

    PS: Alternative Easts tour locations:

  • Would we have to drink Malibu?

Thread title updated now. Thanks Hippy.

  • Something with fruit (not the forumenger) and a paper umbrella in certainly.

  • I really ought to come to this one of these days.

  • Just do it man, you'll enjoy it.

  • Its got lots of haircuts, and the beers are at hipster prices.

It's actually marginally less hipster than it used to be thanks to the Spurstowe around the corner somehow becoming a hipster magnet. I am very happy about this fact.

The PG also has a very good, if expensive, jukebox (I believe it is/was "curated" by Liela Moss of The Duke Spirit), an aged pub cat and a healthy number of long-time locals.

  • I was kinda hoping the Spurstowe had the hipster monopoly.
Only one way to find out.

I lived on Graham Road for a bit and when I moved there the Spurstowe was grim as. Grubby, and empty. Really uncomfortably quiet. We popped in for a drink the day we moved in and it was a classic two-blokes-and-a-dog-turning-and-staring-at-you situation.

When they refurbed it I was quite glad because it was somewhere to get a Sunday roast. Then because of that it went all yummy-mummy until it got so bad they had to ban pushchairs (you literally couldn't walk). And then the service got really terrible, and the prices went up, and now I think the Arthur down the road has kind of taken over the gastropub market around there.

So the hipsters are welcome to it...
