That York one gets bad reviews. I think it's just thick foam, with no durable material on it so it gets chewed up a bit. My heavy duty foam gym tiles are a bit chewed up but not enough that I care.

I bet that site is top of your browsing list…

What fan would folks recommend? I don’t want to break the bank on a fancy one but would quite like the option of changing fan speed by remote (is that a thing?) rather than having to lean over and risk getting my flowing locks sucked into the bloody thing

What budget are you thinking?

Sub £50 ideally

https://www.cleva-uk.com/products/vacmaster-air-mover. TRAINERROAD10 will give you a 10% discount. There is a remote one but that's more expensive.

Really worth going for a Cleva unit if you can spend a little more. Moves a serious amount of air, also handy for drying clothes! I have the non-remote version.

Thanks @small and @jakemcree - they look pretty good, and I'd rather buy a half decent thing than buy cheap and buy twice. The space I turbo in is pretty limited so the cleva looks much better than a whopping great floor fan.

I have mine on a table / box right above the front wheel - very compact and easy to reach the switch mid-ride

could get a simple remote plug for 10£ too

Another for cleva, compact and very powerful for the unit size.

I’d like to buy a smart trainer and find a training plan to get faster/fitter, no specific goal.
I’m looking at buying the Wahoo Kickr Core. I have an iPhone, no laptop or tablet.
Tried watching some YouTube videos on this and I’m a bit lost, any advice is appreciated.

Download Trainerroad app, pair the KICKR to phone via Bluetooth, follow plan, yellow jersey?

• #4691
You also use Zwift with that set up and that gives you some more options if you want to do some 'free rides', events, races etc. Zwift has quite a lot of training plans now as well so I'm sure there would be something suitable. Should say you'll probably get a better experience if you do get some kind of laptop, tablet though.

You don't need a smart trainer but it does let you do the computer game stuff like Zwift, Rouvy etc. Trainerroad is very training-specific and has AI stuff for calculating threshold etc. Not sure if Wahoo Systm is still a thing but it has complementary video stuff like yoga and circuits.
All of them them will work with the Core so I would just trial them and see what works for you.
As with anything fitness related, quality work little and often will get you a long way so pick an UI you think will be sustainable in the long term.

Actually, that reminds me, you can just use the Wahoo app to calibrate the turbo and then set stuff in the app to ride to. Like a fixed wattage and I think there's maybe some more complicated interval settings but I very much prefer TR so never used the Wahoo app for anything other than a 20min spin without needing to turn on the laptop.

Wahoo Systm is now part of Wahoo X, which wants a monthly subscription around the same price as Trainerroad / Zwift ~£12 a month.
I've never used it but I'd probably favour Zwift/Trainerroad depending on your preference. You can free trial both before you commit.

Nice.
I don't use any of these platforms, just build sessions in TrainingPeaks, but I can see the appeal of nice graphics/avaters riding about.

Tried watching some YouTube videos on this and I’m a bit lost, any advice is appreciated. My partner wanted to add turbo training around commuting for some big summer trips.
I first set them up on Zwift, as I thought it was cheapest.
Didn't even see out the free 14 day trial before cancelling.Assume Zwift spent all the VC money on sponsoring athletes and YouTube adverts.
Maybe some people get a kick from chasing avatars but for us, the interface for training, scheduling, finding workouts and feedback is terrible.
Now paying the extra £2-3 a month for TrainerRoad. Watched them setup an adaptive low volumne plan, super easy. The Progression levels, adaptions and upcoming red light features ontop of the excellent calendar, are just easy and they are just cracking on with getting faster without much faff.
You can make your own mind up easily, Zwift offer 14 days free, traineroad a 30 day money back guarantee if you want to cancel.

Workouts are terrible/plans are terrible on Zwift. They're improving the menus, but, still.
The thing for zwift is the "racing". TR has the "AI GENERATED TRAINING PLANZ". -

Has anyone used dropout converters to go 120mm -> 130mm for using a direct drive trainer with fixed gear bike?
My trusty Pre Cursa has been doing well on my Cycleops trainer over winter, and as I was thinking of picking up a 2nd had Taco Flux 2. Not being able to adjust resistance on the fly makes any session pretty limited at the moment, so thinking combination of:
- dropout adaptor
- single speed kit & freehub body
- direct drive trainer
- profit?
- dropout adaptor

Interesting. I'd not seen those before. Previously we've used axle extender nuts to put my partner's SS on the fluid trainer but those would allow her to stick her SS on the smart trainer.

I'd previously seen some heinously expensive adaptor which looks extend and adapt. I was hoping someone else may have tried, that adaptor is on back order so may need to conjure one of the LFGSS alchemists with metalworking skills to knock it off.
If you're paying, sure.
